I've always been curious as to what english sounds like to a person who doesn't understand the language. When I come up against a foreign language that I don't understand, I'm usually quite quick to tune in to the predominant sounds of that language, even though the words make no sense. For example, japanese has a lot of 'sh' sounds to it and generally sounds like it has a flowing softness to it. If english is a second language to you and are you are fairly competent in its use, I'd be keen to hear what english sounds like to you, or how it sounded to you when you first came across it. If I think about it, I notice a lot of 'ch' sounds, and emphasis on 's' (hard or so…

I know its actual use was for medical students. This sort of makes me a little sick though. Who would want this? Its like those creepy people that keep the umbilical cord. Im pretty sure you already have a token to remember the birth, the baby itself.

I need one for running, but I am a cheapskate. I basically only need something that can hold about 2-4 hours of music at a time, that doesn't immediately break down, and is fairly cheap. Ive been told refurbished Ipods usually work out pretty well, but being the paranoid bastard I am, I want to make sure my purchase won't completely poop out on me. Do you, the great people of WATMM have any recommendations for where I should begin?

Alright WATMM..... My old headphones are biting the dust. They are technics RPDH-1200 (don't laugh!)... My main sources for audio with my headphones are my iPod classic 160gb (no headphone amp) and my sansui AU-999 amplifier at my computer. I'm looking to upgrade but there are many options between sony, sennheiser, AKG, Grado, etc..... I have $600 to spend and this can be between headphones, or headphones and a headphone amp (provided it works with the ipod...). I'm looking for your experiences with headphones etc to recommend me an item or combo of items in this price point. I like as much dynamic range as possible, of course (seems a silly comment bu…

At comic-con Marvel Studios announced sequels and release dates for Iron Man, Thor, and Captain America. No Avengers 2 announcement yet but they have officially announced Ant-Man and Guardians Of the Galaxy to be in the same universe that will lead up the inevitable Avengers sequel. Directed by Edgar Wright written by Edgar Wright & Joe Cornish i don't read modern Marvel comics, but apparently they brought back a silver age galactic protection force resembling sort of a Green Lantern Corp team. They released promotional art for this upcoming film, and it appears that Marvel is just going balls out. Unless this will be some outside of cannon fully…

I'm not surprised people stopped going after the whole Bloc nonsense. Good riddance to it. A ridiculous venue anyhow. There wasn't even the chance that somebody could have made it a good venue. http://www.factmag.com/2012/08/03/london-pleasure-gardens-to-go-into-administration/

Our non-US members might not be aware of US fast food chain's stance on same-sex marriage, but anyone who has tried a Chick-Fil-A chicken sandwich knows they have a winning formula when it comes to chicken sandwiches. Here's a way to enjoy the sandwich without compromising your views that may differ with the company's president. http://www.seriouseats.com/2012/07/the-food-lab-how-to-make-a-chick-fil-a-sandwich-at-home.html

This is a fun one to get the ball rolling. Wastes no time to get to the action and has wicked animation. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SVk9uTPIfHo The Signalman is an understated chiller adapted from a Charles Dickens ghost story. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VmBkK7N3Hhc Bit early in the year but this is a great Christmas horror from the guys behind 'Hobo with a Shotgun'. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kicdSI_-XpE A popular one from a guy that works at Pixar. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3nlFfZ7PtX4 Possibly my favourite, A Warning to the Curious from the great M.R James. Like The Signalman this is fairly subtle and has some wonderful …

Need help with abandoned kitten 1 2
by Guest ruiagnelo- 26 replies

This kitten popped up yesterday around our place. He/she was probably abandoned by his mom or by someone that lives around, i dunno. It is very skinny and constantly meowing, like if it was trying to call his mom. We gave him some milk, It's not that hesitant as before, but a little more playful, and keeps following us and meowing just outside our door. I can hear it from inside the house. The kitten is very disoriented and i am afraid it can be hurt by our cars while we leave. I want it to survive, but i am afraid it can get very close to us, which is already happening. Should i call the animal protection center? I have never had any cats, and this one seems to have been…
