1. I know EKT knows a lot about reverb, what's the best reverb plugin I can get (needs to work with Renoise) - I don't mind paying if it's fucking decent! 2. I've messed about with some refill's in Reason and they are usually real samples that you can manipulate by syncing them with other things or whatever - I really want to know what is the best thing to use for composing fake classical music, preferably something that uses real samples or just truely awesome emulation (for example, that Reason piano refill sounds great). Cheers

by Guest dugbert- 7 replies

I was looking before at like an AKAI S3000, which seems pretty good for like $300 but it still has way more features than i need. I just want something really simple that is rack mounted and has like 4 outputs... can anyone recommend something?

Music/Sound as a Hobby or a Profession. 1 2

Since theres a lot of you on here I'm curious how many of you are in music/sound production as a career vs. as a hobby. I'm also curious how it relates, like say making music vs. selling it, or radio or something like that. I've been considering moving out of multimedia and design and focusing more on music and sound production, maybe in the video game industry if I can find a place. Right now music is more of a hobby and rarely do I create music for anything other than listening to. Lately though I'm finding it to be something I'm quite passionate about, and while a recording career seems like a pipe dream I could see myself working in other avenues of music/so…

alright let's get this going. I'm going to put out a full length limited deep sea creatures themed release, because deep sea creatures balled out of control in the "what is the most electronic music thing" tournament. they may have lost to beards, but they won me over. if you're not aware of the tournament, here's the thread with the finals: http://forum.watmm.com/index.php?showtopic...mp;#entry441960 so I figured I'd select a few trustworthy judges with good taste, including myself, and hand pick the submissions, then organize the album, then make it, then sell it for the cost of shipping. it will be very limited, obscure, and ultra cool, capturing the sp…

SPEAR Additive Resynthsizer Basically, it uses a method I don't fully understand the particulars of , but one that utilizes Fast Foruier Transforms to analyze the partials contained within an input sound, and recreate it using stacks of sine waves (that second part there is what additive synthesis is). I'm at work so I can't hear it yet, but I'd imagine this would make some pretty fucking crazed adaptations of your voice, or a guitar, or farting or whatever. Shit I wish I had a violin.

ok, so i just installed cubase 4. i set my plugs folder as a shared vst folder... so far so good. i'm experiencing two problems. one... my waves gold bundle are showing up in the effets list, but under a single heading... waves shell.... and i can't save an effects unit with different parameters to the default. two... if i use the effects integral to the daw, again, it defaults to the factory set when i reload the file. now i've tried automating the parameters in a silent part at the start of the track, but while i can see the automation, the sound doesn't quite correspond. the only workaround i can find is to freeze individual tracks, but…

building an electronic drumkit
by Guest idrn- 5 replies

scenario - despite never having had a lesson, my brother is a kick-ass drummer. he got a cheap kit when he was about 15/16 but promptly split all the cymbals in about 4 places and completely destroyed the snares, which was the end of that due to the impracticality and cost of drums. however, him and his gf are moving into a new flat with two living rooms and so we were thinking of getting him a drumkit which in turn will mean we can start a proper band. the only problem is that unless we buy a super expensive kit, he'll just destroy it while drumming to dragon force. having a real kit also means that all other instruments have to contend against the volume with decent a…

lets discuss how we write tracks , from what we use : hardware, software, how we use it. to how in depth you would like to go me? i/ve gone through many setups through my lief time. but currently i'm using sony acid pro which i/m recording my rm1x with (wav). . one sound at a time unfortunatley because my setup only really can do one input, (audiophile) , so then i record another, etc etc . i don't use vsts really at this stage but rather use the rm1x sound engine when recording in realtime. i then arrange in acid and when i have a rough sketch i export as a wav and open in cool edit from there i make further edits, loops and such and cuts. basica…

I've been considering picking up a Roland mc808 for a while now, as i wanted to start writing my own material and wanted some equipment besides my laptop which i spend all day on anyway. I was askin a chap i know about this the other night, he's quite in to his techno djing, and he turned around and said not to get one, that they're stupid pieces of fisher price shit and that i'd regret getting one......I find this pretty hard to believe as every single person i have talked to before him has said they are fantastic and that i'll really enjoy them, and everything i have read on the net says they are great. This lad is a bit of opinionated prick anyway so I wouldn't hold mu…

How do you get swing on Ableton?

None of the groove options seem to add any serious swing or skippiness to a beat or rhythm in Ableton. Any ideas? Cheers.
