Let's face some facts.. RDJ has been on fire this year!

I thought in the begging just okay some live sets on festivals and a small EP-Release
But he have been releasing more and more stuff..

What u think?

Blackbox EP was OKish but with his London gig he blew it out of the water. I was pretty underwhelmed arriving at Field Day looking forward to ARCA but he then just pushed forward hard taking no hostages into an abstract form that reminded of something Autechre would sound live later resolving it with this mega Siu Mata & Amor Satyr track. It really brought me back on track. Looking forward to a better recording.

better than 2015? (soundcloud dump, ccai pt2, deejay selek, marchrom 12")

1995? (icbyd, hab, donkey rhubarb, ventolin)

even 2017? (bleepstore launch, field day lp, first live 'tour' in ages)

We will see how it will end this year but yeah okey but besides the enormous Soundcloud dump 2015 I think this year can beat many other years so far.

Many tours, music videos, little bit on soundcloud, festival vinyls.. I think if he releases one thing more it is surly on top!

The gigs have been unreal, hard to describe how good but they have been the best I've ever seen, I booked the ticket for Field Day at the start, then decided on going to Syd For Solen on my own and got into a few scrapes there cancelled accom and sleeping rough on the street having my wallet and passport stolen but was lucky enough to meet some really sound people at the gig who bought me beers and put me up for the night in their house, then I booked Dour and went on my own again and it was amazing too, accom got cancelled again but they let me know about it beforehand and I was able to rebook a different accom but it was a bit of a trek from Mons to the gig, again I met loads of really nice people a few from on here on watmm, London no accom disasters but a fire alarm disaster and missed flight home, we were lucky there and stayed in a friend's place that night. Again met some really great people but I was with a few friends and relatives at this one so wasnt as pushed to meet other afx fans, i did try and I managed to lose everybody I was with during the gig but I didnt care. I have one final gig booked in Bristol for the closer, hoping he does another tour record at that, had my accom cancelled for that too couldn't actually believe that it happened to me 3 times but again with this one they let me know early and found me a better accommodation and will refund the price difference, hopefully no more mishaps and another great gig but I'd definitely do it all again. And hopefully he doesn't go into hiatus after it all for a few years. Keen to have a pint in Ireland with Diatoms and hear about his tour he is going to all of them, met him at Dour and Field Day, a nicer man you could not meet. My only gripe with whole thing is the price gouging, £45 tshirts in London 😆

Personally, one of the best for me cause i went to 2 shows and had the time of my life.

Mindblowing work by weirdcore and a whole bunch of super lush new tracks from afx, i can't ask for more.

Can't wait to relive it with the stream on nts

Ivanooze at Dour the legend gave me some free shrubbery

As for the released music nothing will top the soundcloud dump but the music this year has been great, and jatskos setlists on reddit forum are unreal managed to snag a good few of my favourites from other atists in those on vinyl. I'm still hopeful of an album after the tour he has the material there to make an absolute wordie or even 2, would love an Aphex and an AFX album

Defo up there as one of the best afx years for me, probably the best

Yeah that shit all happened as I said wouldn't swap it, prob felt like the joy of finishing a marathon and I have the crippling iron man crawl to go

I hope Diatoms is OK too. I'm pretty sure he is, he probably just hasn't bought a new phone yet, his phone was in bits when I met him, the only reason I met him was that he saw me there and recognised me from Dour fest and shouted over to me as I was going to the merch tent, and he offered me a vinyl card as they had all been sold out but I was lucky that my nephew had bought the early access pass and got me one already, all that vip early access is a load of shite too.

Now that is really true! Wow wow! Best year! You are totally right!

He even played Rushup In Bank 12 there!

First glimpse of The Tuss, This is Chris Cunningham era.. Very good tracks in the set!

The Jungle remix of Lichen is pretty dope too!

That year was very exciting, and expensive. I fondly remember running to my favorite record shops to nab the new analords over and over and over.
Only bummer was that I ordered the binder and the order was cancelled s few days later and I was refunded instead of receiving a copy of AB5 🫤

Yeah 2005 was great, never bothered with the binder, thought it was a rip-off for 40 quid or whatever it was, goes for a grand now 😆 never had the best business acumen

Still can't understand why anyone would want to keep the records in it unless you just look at them, the plastic sleeves they came in were shit enough as they were, the records themselves are great, could possibly do with being remastered but I can't see it happening

Thread title is critiquebait.

It's been a great year so far, yes. Like many other great Aphex years.

Maybe something that sticks out here is the BBLR artwork. It's probably the most elaborate of all his releases, especially because of the app.

as someone who wasnt there for any of this (Collapse was my starting point); id say 1995 and 2017 are his two best years.

1995 - Ventolin remixes, ...I Care Because You Do, UI Green, AB5 (ik that it wasnt released in 1995 but it was meant to iirc so i think it counts) & Hangable Auto Bulb

2017 - warp store bonuses (if i had to be specific; Hangable Auto Bulb, Come To Daddy [in fact i think 28 organ is the best song on that EP], Rushup Edge, end E2, odj 06-08 & field day), field day LP & Orphans

I’m curious how Collapse was the first RDJ joint that got you hooked (please do tell), but welcome to the team :aphexsign:
