Why did they only make a limited number of cassettes? I get it for the super expensive box set but with a 5 month pre-order time they could've made enough cassettes.

In my opinion, it boils down to two main factors. Demand and logistics. I feel Warp didn't want to make too many cassettes as they were unsure if they would actually be in demand, so a small batch limited run was the logical option. Then theres the logistics of sourcing 500+ chrome cassette tapes (probably 100 minutes per tape in length), and the packaging for them too. This seems to be very difficult as chrome cassettes aren't in production anymore, making a wide release of the cassettes not very viable. 🙁

I heard some time ago that SAW II sounds glorious on cassette for some reason I cant remember.

Wonder if as it ages, the crunchiness and fading would add to the mystique of the sound hmmm...

yeah. magnetic tape slowly deteriorates even if you're not using it

Yeah maybe that's just what it is.. inherently the tone and hiss definitely have a vibe, but when it wears out that's probably where the fun comes from

Use chrome tape ( CrO² ). I have some out of the 70ies from flea markets. They kept all their sparkles. ❤️‍🔥

Finally! Order dispatched. *Squints to read tracking* Shipping from...North Carolina!?! 😞 Hope it at least arrives in VG+ condition....

Mine still has preshipment status, saying label created usps awaiting item from North Carolina. Has yours like physically moved from North Carolina? I get that it’s going to be a bit cuz of that horrible hurricane. Just curious.

wish i could've got one of the chrome tape sets, but i think ill be happy with the ferrics

this album seems perfect for the format. and for me its a pretty special one, i rarely play it. not because it's bad, but because it's really good but also long and quite the task to take it all in in one go. i also like keeping it special

anyway, i'm not complaining, but how cool would it have been if we ever got the SAW 2.5 or SAW 3 or etc from the soundcloud tracks, nicely remastered and put on tape/vinyl/cd? kind of looks like that's never going to happen at this point.

anyway, if they do more of these re-releases, i hope surfing on sine waves is next..

Definitely SOSW. That might be my favorite LP of his. Such deep vibes.
I snagged one of the chrome tapes but it is also in NC shipping limbo (Burlington… doesn’t look like it was devastated, actually). The order was “dispatched” on October 1st but it is currently “Awaiting Item”, whatever that means.
