Irreversible 8/10 - I didn't enjoy this movie one bit, it was completely fucked up.. especially the rape scene was horrible.. and when that guy took the extinguisher to the other guys face.. holy shit.

yet you gave it a what?

Even though I didn't enjoy it, I felt that it is way out there and completely different from other films I've seen. The guys got balls, hence the rating. It was well made. Just shocking.

I watched the new Danny Boyle movie (127 hours) in cinema, no dubs, no subs, nice seat, perfect conditions. And Danny didn't disappoint me, he never does. Although I wasn't that big on Slumdog Millionaire.

I don't like to give numerical scores but if I did, I'd give it an awesome.

Sex Drive - Delightfully silly, cosy American comedy in the style of American Pie

Blue Valentine - Think someone in here mentioned this. Good sober drama, didn't like the all too realistic sex scenes. Nice camerawork. Dragged on a bit towards the end. Goslings hairline made me feel a bit better about my own.

The Woodsman - Decent drama about a convicted peodophiles return to society after time in jail.

In Bruges - Thoroughly enjoyable crime caper, relaly liked it. Especially the dwarf and his attitude.

kind of, it's worth it for chevy chase but most of it tends to be heavy handed message crap

i've been very surprised by the love NBC seems to be getting for their original programming ( 30 rock, parks and rec, community, SNL) for the past 4 years. really good comedians like Poehler, Louie Ck, Joel McHale deserve less watering down. Community seems to be the weaker of the 4 i just mentioned. I only saw the first 2 episodes though..

Social Network - 8/10, i really enjoyed it, thought the REznor score was superb. Jessie Eisenberg and the cast won me over. Not really much else to say but i was really resisted seeing this one, i was expecting to find it very unlikable.

Community seems a rushed attempt to capture 30 Rock's fast-paced witty style of humour. 7 episodes in and I don't care much for any of the characters

I don't like 30 Rock very much at all, cept for Tracy Morgan and Jack MacBrayer...

Community feels less forced and is more creative with its humor...

Chevy Chase being addicted to pain killers this season is comedic gold...

Joel McHale is a funny funny man...

Alison Brie is beautiful and funny as hell...

I wasn't sold on it til the Betty White episode and her being the NBC Golden Girl goddess she is, she melted my soul....and so has this show :emb:

yeah see the first half season is okay at best, about halfway through the first season they're like "fuck reality!" and now there's a show about a community college that has a zombie episode.

also what atop said. and troy and abed are the most adorable hetero life mates ever.

Yea, those aren't great arguments for the show, Betty White is crap and the show tries WAY too hard. Parks and Recreation is the only show on NBC worth watching. Mainly for Poehler and Louis Ck.

i disagree

pop pop!

also i just watched an idiot abroad. kind of got a bit carried away when i should have been sleeping, ended up watching half of it all in a row. it was about what i expected, for better or worse. funny in an infuriating way.

watched the film adaptation of The Road after reading the book for the first time. they changed up the order of things, which kind of stunted the emotional impact of a few scenes, and a lot of the realy long drawn out awful "we are starving to death" scenes got compressed into like a minute, which was annoying, but otherwise, it was pretty good. i think i cried through the whole thing, though. christ almighty. bleak doesn't begin to describe it.

what did you think of the endings?

i thought the book was kinda critical of the father, since he'd been paranoid about everyone, thinking that there was no one good anywhere, and as soon as he dies some good people that had been observing decide to take in the kid. it's like the father was trying to prepare the kid to fight in the world alone but he was actually keeping them away from a group of good people who couldn't trust the father. and it was also a bit ambiguous, because you never saw the woman or kids.

and then in the movie it was just like "whoops what a happy coincidence, and see, there actually is a woman who will love you, what a lovely hollywood ending yay"

but i thought the movie was a very good adaptation, as far as adaptations go.

MiddleMen - starring luck wilson and giovoni ribisi , starts off trying to be like an internet porn version of the Social Network and then degenerates into a bad version of the movie Wonderland.

IF i could give any movie the label of 'frankenscript' it would have to be this movie. It literally felt like the studio had 2 movies in the que and decided to mashup the scripts together.

5/10

yeah, i thought the movie was a bit lighter on the guy, but i kind of liked that. i mean paranoia in a world where probably 9 out of 10 people you meet would seriously consider eating you is kind of natural... i didn't think it explored what the father saw as his greatest faults - the whole idea that he would tell his kid these stories about the world before the disaster, but the kid only knows the world after the disaster. filling his head with ideas and stories and fantasies that will never come true, or whatever.

as for the end, it was definitely a bit sappier than the book, what with the dog and kids, but the book does talk about him meeting the woman, mentions her teaching him to "talk to god," but god never answers back, but his father does.

i think one of my favourite things about the end, though, was just how butt-ugly those people were. i mean viggo mortensen is pretty goddamn hot even emaciated scruffy and with wrinkles (hell, he could even pull off an awful mustache in those flashback scenes) and that kid was just downright angelic for the life he'd lived, but that family, oh man. that's what post-apocalyptic people look like. hah.

but yeah, one of the best book adaptations i've seen, i think. which doesn't REALLY say a lot.

anyways i just snagged "house," the 1977 japanese horror flick, not the show. i've heard... interesting things. looking forward to it.
