Autechre - Oversteps (WARP210) [The MegaThread]

Having been listening to the leak for a while and having heard the 'official' download, I think this album is a solid Autechre album. It is better than Quaristice, but a little less interesting than everything else from Chiastic Slide to Untilted. Maybe.

lol@ ppl waiting for the "official release date" who totally crack and grab the tracks when they go up for download. I mean, are you basing your decisions around warp's discretion to pre-release or are you actually basing it on your collective earlier arguments that you're going to wait until march 23rd until you have the physical copies?

wanting to listen to it the first time on vinyl i can understand, but cd/digital downoad is kind of lol

My decision in not listening to leaks was based upon showing the artist a bit of respect. And the fact that I have not illegally downloaded anything in years. Thats my decision and something I am sticking by.

Now that it has officially been released - i am very happy to download and listen. I have only pre-ordered the cd so far, so I am not gaining anything for waiting until March. Those waiting for the vinyl on the other hand may have different views.

is anyone else picking up on the vaguely Vangelis-like timbres?

i like this album a LOT and cannot wait to get it on vinyl

Oversteps = Tangerine Dream + Vangelis + Gerald Donald = Epic.

i'm glad i did wait for the official (HQ) release. sounds fantastic. really cool & a bit of a surprise that they're back with those charming melodies/arpegios/medieval moments that i love so much when i discovered Ae.

khov was the one i think who brought it up, bladerunner is not one of my favorites of his by a long shot. There are great moments of bladerunner, but too much porno saxophone!

here is what i like of Vangelis, there are some really cheesy songs on pretty much everything he has done but they are counteracted with some amazing music

(1975) Heaven and Hell

(1977) Spiral

(1978) Beaubourg

(1985) Invisible Connections

i like that retro 1980 porn vibe with that saxophone. well the blade runner soundtrack is weird ("one more time dear", words written by peter skellern!) but dont miss out the second (unreleased music )CD recently released.

don't get me wrong but i heard from a few people on this board in the new bladerunner thread to stay away from the 2nd newly released cd because it's well... more porno saxaphone but made post 2000 (taking on even cheeasier vibe because porno sax is even more inexcusable in music now)

Once again, Autechre starts their album quietly (notice the 10 seconds of silence at the beginning of r ess).

What do you think of the track-by-track artworks? In my opinion, they are as lazily designed as those for Quaristice.

well, the story behind Blade Runner's soundtrack is even more complicated than the Malese Falcon, but on the latest 3CD edition, you'll find : CD1 (classic soundtrack) CD2 (more tune from 1982, mostly used in the movie - very good) & CD3 (newly music inspired by blade runner, recorded in the 2000s ; terrible, i only listened to it once, cant remember about the saxoporn but its awful).
