roasty
Stunning. Cassini also picked up some crazy radio waves from Saturn; after being time compressed and shifted into range of hearing, it sounds a little like Complex Mathematical equation:

chenGOD
Still my favourite shot from Cassini: Fuck yes, it's been one of my desktops for so long, but I always marvel at it every time it shows up on screen. Those sounds go so well with the last 3 minutes of Stars of the Lid's "December Hunting for Vegetarian Fuckface".

lumpenprol
I'm still trying to reconcile these images with the images of saturn I used to have hanging on my wall as a kid. I remember those ones all had fairly distinct bands on the planet itself (presumably not shadows from the rings, but actual color striations. Kind of like this image: were those bands exaggerated by shitty photography, or did the storms clear up?
roasty
Good question I want to know too^ Also, is Saturn really just a sad clown:

That's us :) seriously? ... whoa You're also looking at the dark side of Saturn through the scattered light there, not because of the reflection from the rings or anythign - it's is the least dense planet in our solar system (less dense than water...Saturn would float in water lol!) roasty
Edit: I'm wrong, the dark-side is being lit by ring-shine clearly I'm a dumbass. The body of Saturn isn't see-through
Guest disparaissant
i just stared at this for like 8 minutes See that white spec in the top left corner of the rings? That's us :) That's Here. That's Home. That's us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every "superstar," every "supreme leader," every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there – on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam.
