Vaporwave

I know this has been the thread where Blank Banshee has been discussed, and that's fine, but it really isn't vaporwave. It has a similar subject matter (advanced coporatism) but I would group it with Fatima Al Qadari and that Humanity/MusicforYourPlants/Zoology/Exolab record, which are also brought up here

Kinda hard to classify it, I mean, I could do it but I don't want to. Doing so could mess it up.

MidiStep. EmulatorWave. MidiGarage. RomBoogie. CyberWonk.

Basically it is a more ableton heavy crossover between some of the visuals of vaporwave (and less of the sonics), and the stuff on Diskotopia and ESP.

I would say his second album is very "vaporwave".

His first one I wouldn't categorize as it at all, on that I would agree.

Genres are silly anyway.

i thought we'd given up trying to actually keep this thread to only one postmodern internet microgenre like 15 pages ago

So I got an idea...

I think we could collectively pull off a WATMMwave compilation, and I would seriously be down with putting out a cassette release. I might even contribute a track, who knows.
So I'm thinking we make some vaporwave-y tracks from us here on this thread, come up with a basic pool of aesthetics to touch upon and maybe do some promo youtube videos. I could duplicate some cassette tapes to sell and we could put together a nice j-card. I can make some shell stickers for the artwork as well. I have a lot of blank tapes of various sizes ( I can list those later), maybe do a run of 25-50 or so.*
*(I also scored, for free, a plethora of 90s era business motivational speaker tapes, mostly Mary Kay affiliated. I could dub the album over those, maybe leaving 5, 10, 15 second spots snippets of corny corporate audio goodness between tracks or at the beginning/end of each side - make for a gimmicky uniqueness to each tape. No idea how many I have though, at least 2 dozen I think of the same length)

This would be a very late spring/early summer release. I'm just trying to see if anyone would be down, get some feedback, etc. I am embarrassingly ignorant of the overall timing/procedure of these things and how to setup bandcamp and compensate folks, etc. I'll have to PM Root5 or something.
Also, I'd send some copies off to different tape review sites as well for some promotion. The tape community is pretty open-minded and refreshingly absent of people with their heads up their trendy asses.

What do ya'll think?

i'd be very down for this, would give me an excuse to work on some quasi Antique Electronic/Synthesizer greats tracks for possibly a part 4.

One more thought for 12/24hrs from me (commute then night classes then sleep after this post)...

I figure we set this up as a compilation akin to, I dunno a Pure Moods or new age or ripoff 90s dance music release. I'd be like, self-self-self-aware. Someone could type a cheesy corporate spammy intro about how these are the "next big vaporwave artists"

I'd help prevent "ripoff" decorators (I think) and enhance the premise overall of the music featured - people who already like vaporwave should like it then, right?

sounds good to me, it might be funny to do it all as the same artist like a fake 80s quasi new-age corporate guy but we all make the songs for it (sort of like the opposite of the EDM compilations by jodey kendrick) , the kit-list would also be important as it needs A LOT of bad romplers and shitty late 80s digital synths

I spoke with Donovan Hikaru.. and he's totally down to do a track for this, sounds super fun!

note: his will be original as he doesn't sample (although his very rare "Donovan Hikaru San Francisco Office" alias will sample once in a blue moon)

.. if that's ok? or does it all need to be plunderphonics?
