I found some old tapes in the loft when I moved, in amongst them were a whole bunch of Radio One Essential Mixes (all of which can now be downloaded from various places), but most interestingly were some John Peel shows from the mid 90s which I really should get round to listening too. One tape I remember is a festive 50 show.

I'm a cassette tape junkie and even I'd say this is too much.

I'd also go for something more subtle and snobby, like this Nakamichi polo shirt: :P

The event looks cool, there's two stores in my area participating, but I'm not sure if I want any of the releases (maybe the JJ Doom one). Most of the tape labels I like I simply buy via bandcamp. I frequent thrift stores and DIY record shops already for used tapes.

Not to be a cynic at all, I do think this is pretty neat and I hope it becomes an annual thing.

Good looking deck - love the VU meters. Is it a JVC?

Mine's a 90s era deck (not my pic but identical to this):

good eye, it is indeed a JVC KD-V400

I've no idea if it's decent or not, all I know is it sounds alright to me and has served me well for about 7 years now. your deck looks pretty swish

all what i want is draft 7.30 cassette :(

http://www.discogs.com/sell/list?release_id=156930&ev=rb

There was another one under those two that was a lot cheaper and also never played.

I nabbed it 10 minutes after moaning about always wanting one in the 'Your Autechre Collection' thread

Might check out Rough Trade on the day.

My stereo plays cassettes but I also have this beast that I found in the street one nights drunken walk home:

But it's over 30 pounds inc. shipment + taxes (25%). I'll think about it.

:emb: ...and i even don't have a cassette player any more.

Seems MisterE is selling one?!?

And it's never been played but he's sad to see it go :cerious:

Hey, it's got a switch with 'Mega Bass' written on it - cool kids like bass right ?! (especially if it's mega. Mega is well wicked)

In all seriousness Sony made the best portables - "Walkman" is their trademark name too.

I should have known the boys would see this as an opportunity to compare decks. :D

*Ponders what it means then that my only existing tape player looks like this*

Dude, this is actually a decent portable - I've never seen one with a metal tape setting. That's usually just a deck feature. It's kind of slick looking in a nice 90s way.
