I actually believed that the thing was going somewhere, so naive of me.

So did I.

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Fool me for six seasons, FUCK YOU DAMON LINDELOF.

No love for District 9?

I LOVE District 9! That's one of my all time favorites. I know this is a thread about Prometheus, but I thought District 9 was the better of the two.

District 9 was a fun 'blip' on the re-channeling of my favorite thing about 80s science fiction. I know a lot of people absolutely fall over for Bladerunner, but for me the 80s scifi era was defined by Predator, Total Recall, Terminator 1, Robocop, Aliens and i think District 9 is probably the only movie ive seen in recent memory that brings me back to that vibe.

I like District 9 partially because it took some risks & wasn't all hollywood like - main dude is a wimpy moustachioed guy & kind of a huge prick for most of the film, & by the end of it he's a big weird monster living on top of a garbage heap & nothing's been resolved for him. You sympathize with the aliens even though they're big weird monsters who kill people & buy hookers & eat catfood. If I remember correctly the soundtrack mostly consists of whatever happens to be blaring out of random nearby radios.

For me Prometheus was better than District 9, because I like dark alien stuff. In these kinda movies that's very important.

Personally, I wouldn't compare these two just because they're movies about aliens. Prometheus is about something pretty hypothetical and unlikely to be true. An interesting take on were we come from as a species. District 9 is more a allegory for what happened in South Africa during the apartheid regime (district six in Cape Town).

Yes but that's exactly the thing. I like films that are further off, having evil beings of evil shapes terrorizing people. The mistique of the story adds a bit too.

Jean Henri Gaston Giraud (8 May 1938 – 10 March 2012) was a French comics artist, working in the French tradition of bandes dessinées. Giraud earned worldwide fame, predominantly under the pseudonymMœbius... Moebius contributed storyboards and concept designs to numerous science fiction and fantasyfilms, including Alien, Willow and Tron (1982)."

Ridley was a big fan of his and it seems this NSFW image below indicates a tribute to Moebius and his work.

No. You've posted the same thing three times now. No one wants that in their cache at work. You should read the rules again.

I should have put a NSFW tag on it, my mistake. Won't happen again. But its relevant to the thread and I feel that the image isn't overly explicit... I don't think anyone would see that as anything but something pointing out tribute to an artist... Not something perverted or weird. Please revoke the warning point? After you removed it once I realized my mistake and posted it with NSFW and then it was removed again, so then I posted it again with context cause I was thinking you didn't understand the relevance

haha, seriously?

I've just never gotten a warning point. It's like never getting a speeding ticket or something, I take pride in my good record. Losing that record over this is so anti-climatic. If I wanted to get a warning point I would go all out, Costanza style.

btw, sorry about this being off-topic. Please don't give me another warning point...

Ceasing all warning point discussion from this point on.

Eh, don't sweat it, dude.

Even I have a "warning point" and I'm practically an angel...except when bickering with my husband, Joyrex.

lol thanks Overlook... though I'm not shocked you have a warning point. Not that I think you deserve any. But you're a bit more controversial than some here. Which isn't a bad thing.

Ok ceasing all warning point discussion starting now...

I know what you mean. I like dark, moody visuals too, but for District 9 in particular the documentary-like style suits the story better. It has aliens in it, but they seem to be a metaphor for the black South Africans during apartheid. I'd compare it more to Avatar where the Na'vi seem to represent the Native Americans during the European migration. I think it's just a very different kind of film.

district 9 had the only really cool power armor/mechsuit i've seen in a movie. the action is thrown off by some obvious peter jackson influenced slow mo nonsense, but overall, it was a stand out from the usual fare.

i didn't care for District 9 at all. i wanted to like it, but it was just so...i dunno. maybe the lo budget hindrances bothered me, maybe it was the preachy message of it all so obvious. maybe the combo, who knows.

also, screw you cats who read here at work. do your damned jobs! we'll post all the dicks we want!
