pics you took that you're pleased with

I shoot in raw but that requires tweaking in Lightroom, if nothing other than to provide enough sharpening to make the image not look like poo on a screen.

I usually tweak by Lightroom fader beyond that, though. Control over processing is the only reason to shoot raw over jpeg.

But I don't think osc was just being facetious; it's really hard to know where to draw the "purity" line in photography.

I've uploaded stuff straight from my camera, and did that a lot more before I got a steep discount on Lightroom a few years back, but looking back the tweaked stuff is probably closer to what "I saw," if that's a basic requirement for naturalistic photos.

Tl;dr is basically "I unno." Probably the easiest way to see something like what you want is to set some narrow official parameters and get submissions? Because basic exposure and sharpening and white balance points etc are maybe necessary if you're not shooting jpeg?

You are right guys, there are limitations and it is difficult to draw that line.

OK, so how should I ask to get some really realistic-like photos?

it's pretty bollocks to talk about seeing as if we were still BITD and using real cameras and film then we'd be doing post in the darkroom and no-one would be like 'can you process that shot again mate i think i'd prefer it sat in the developer for another 2 seconds tbh'

oh no they would, i forgot.

I think he's just asking for some photos with a neutral colour balance and exposure, no point in making such a big deal about it.

I don't know why though, pro photgraphers have been using specific film stock for ages to achieve certain colour balance and contrast ratio, even using high iso film to ad noise when there's plenty of light. Nothing wrong in emulating that in the digital format if you ask me. Digital often looks pretty flat and boring sooc, because of limited dynamic range and whatnot.

Fuck, I'm just as bad as you guys. Sorry Jev

That's OK, mate. I thought about it more and I agree it is a highly relative topic.

Yeah, I am basically interested in some good neutral pics that present atmosphere of a place/objects as true-to-reality as possible. It has unique feeling to me.

I saw this pictures from pre-revolution Russia and it struck me how normal everything seemed. If they were in black and white or in a super-bad/old quality it would probably feel mystical/magical/from different era etc (like WW2 pictures). I realized how manipulating (in both good and bad ways) stylized photos are so I started to prefer the "boring" ones if you know what I mean.

Sorry, I don't understand your point.

film cameras have a special quality that digital doesn't, maybe that's what you're after

I understand that but my point was that those pictures from pre-revolution Russia seem so normal and "boring" (even though they are analog) which I really enjoy. I am basically looking for pictures "without character" if you like.

For example these pictures from 70's NY has tons and tons of character and vibe but I would love to see them in similarly "boring" quality like this picture for example. Of course I would not expect 70's NY pictures IN a modern, digital camera quality but the more neutral the better.
