i never actually liked "classic" IDM - like, in terms of the whole glitchy beats over pretty melodies thing that seemed to dominate. found it all really boring.

weird that you'd find that stuff boring but adore all the monotonous analord & tuss shite :emotawesomepm9:

you used to be a much better troll sirch, think you're losing your touch :emotawesomepm9:

lol

I don't drink alcohol anymore so I don't really get the urge to troll now. :)

ps. I hope you're not just *pretending* you like afx aswell! cos that would be weird.

Yes! I remember hearing a Beefcake track on a local college station late at night and frantically writing down their name and track name onto a scrap of paper in my car to look up later. They were on Hymen Records if I recall correctly.

Kit Klayton is another one who probably influenced stuff that came much later like 2562

Good point, in fact the whole Clicks And Cuts series seems very influential on future garage/post-dubstep

Xanopticon and Terminal 11 did and still do a lot of high tempo intricate beat programming. Don't see them mentioned very much on here

I'm surprised they aren't, at least not as much as Datach'i or Vsnares, they've made some really cool tracks. I remember watching that breakcore doc from years back and Xanopticon was the only producer that really peaked my interest.

What the hell happened to Jackson and His Computer Band? 'Smash' was way ahead of it's time, but that was back in 2005.

Discogs shows he remixed and produced here and there - otherwise he more or less disappeared. I know it's been mentioned in other threads.

i think from what i've gathered on the board is that he sort of fell off the map due to his fondness for ketamine. I think Mr Oizo played a substantial role in getting that album off the ground as well, and i would argue that with the combination of Oizo's production help and Jackson's inventiveness that bands like Justice, Sebastian and most of the Ed Banger roster owe a lot to that single album.

some tracks off my favorite album of his, it's actually spelled Kit Clayton in case anyone was confused. For coming out in 1999 this album was pretty ahead of it's time. I know basic channel and pole were around but i would count his output from this period as equally as important to this whole off-shoot of dub.

Watmm's own Greenbank. His ep for benbecula is still worth tracking down.

Also Signer, in particular Low Light Dreams. One of may favourite ever tracks below, which I think I first heard on a mixtape Xela did for boomkat. And there's another one, Xela.

Prhizzm released one excellent EP on Benbecula and then disappeared...

Team Shadetek; they had an amazing Gescom-like approach to instrumental hip-hop. Not sure where they went...

Also Sote; had a single EP on Warp and then never again from what I could tell... 'Electric Deaf' is like a genre unto itself (this quiet, mono Youtube link does not do the track justice in the slightest)

he did a few more after that, one the sequel to Electric Deaf, 3 songs made in the same sessions called Wake Up which came out as a 12" on my label

and he veered in a completely different direction doing synthesized/electronic renditions of traditional Iranian folk music, also out on my label :emotawesomepm9:

I also recall reading (probably here) that a debilitating perfectionism has kept him from deeming anything worthy of release since then. Could be the ketamine too for all I know.

Smash would be a toughie to follow up. SPD mentioned VHS Head and I do remember thinking they sounded similar when I first heard Trademark Ribbons...

Lexaunculpt

While not the same, he's been producing music with Brad Laner. Lexaunculpt also teaches music related courses at a community college in California.

Awesome, I'm gonna have to check that out as I love Electric Company (especially his Creative Playthings album)
