i never actually liked "classic" IDM - like, in terms of the whole glitchy beats over pretty melodies thing that seemed to dominate. found it all really boring.

I've felt that way for years now, just never had a reason to mention it until now.

i think i used to pretend i liked it

That describes with every non-pop genre ever about 5 years or so...I think I had a phase where I was very superficial and faux-pretentious about what I listened to until I actually figured out what I liked.

anything drill-n-bass related always seemed pretty tedious to me... the glitchy beats + pretty melodies combo was the best stuff!

but w/e, i don't even think i'm using the term drillnbass correctly, probably because i don't care for it. back to things we DO like...

Arovane desperately needs to come back.

Yes! I've lost hope that he ever will though..

Ambulance (well Sunken Foal hasn't)

Damn, somehow I never knew that Sunken Foal was half of Ambulance - going to grab all the SF stuff now; cheers!

i just did ^^

You posted while I was getting my link lol. I believe he does punk rock stuff with an actual band now

Yep, his band's called Shapes Have Fangs

I wouldn't say forgotten (he was supposed to release his first LP since 2005 last year, really fucking hope he gets around to it), but Quinoline Yellow's music is just brilliant. I was anticipating that album SO much last year. Really nice atmosphere in all his tracks mixed with intricate beats... what more can you ask for.

To whomever mentioned Dabrye, he's still around he just releases more techno/electro sounding stuff now, on Ghostly, under the name James T. Cotton.

Also, edIT is still around. He's in The Glitch Mob. I would love for Marumari to start making music again.

I'm kind of wondering what happened to Bogdan Raczynski.

Proem

Proem still releases. His last album came out in 2010 and he's fairly active on Twitter.

Also, here's Helios.

Lexaunculpt

While not the same, he's been producing music with Brad Laner. Lexaunculpt also teaches music related courses at a community college in California.

jega

edIT (solo)

Chevron

Cylob

Jega did finally release "Variance" in 2009, after it being delayed for a very long time. At first the album disappointed me, but it's really grown on me and I find myself listening to it more and more often.

edIT's work became much less IDM influenced and more...

, like lame hip-hop. I tried to get into it, but couldn't.

Chevron still releases things. He posts them on WATMM, actually.

I think there was a post awhile back in the Cylob forum linking his blog talking about why he wasn't making things and had no plans to. Severe hearing loss, if I recall.

Xanopticon and Terminal 11 did and still do a lot of high tempo intricate beat programming. Don't see them mentioned very much on here

I didn't forget, but I hardly ever see a mention of Mr. Projectile.

Ah yeah, I was going to mention him! I remember he had silly track titles like 'bloody bums' back in the mp3.com days.

Anyone remember Duplo Remote? I found this on vinyl recently, good stuff:

The first track, Beatbox Blagger (couldn't find it on youtube) is fucking mental dsp wankery kinda like an actual collab between aphex and autechre.

Oh man, that sucks.

On a lighter note, this thread is an absolute goldmine. All dem recommendations.
