do you guys know some good compilation albums?

something like We Are Reasonable People, Mask or Rephlexions?

i really like compilations because they are both eclectic and coherent and it's a way of discovering new artists.

i also like it when some compilations have an idea behind them, like Mask 500, where they remix '80 songs.

it can be of any genre possible, i am here to discover new things :)

Here are some excellent compilations comprised of artists who post on WATMM, and they're free:

'The Philosophy of Sound and Machine' is an amazing early braindance comp if you can find it:

'Skampler' is a great retrospective of Skam artists from the late 1990s:

'Alba Absurdia' is an amazing compilation from Benbecula, probably the best comp they were involved with:

Sub Rosa puts a lot of passion behind their avant garde electronic compilations and retrospectives: 'An Anthology Of Noise & Electronic Music' is an essential series in that regard.

But the mother of ALL electronic compilations has got to be Icasea's 'Benefit Compilation For Japan': 76 tracks for only $7, all of it is great and there are some big names in there as well. I STILL haven't listened to it all!

Gold Panda and Apparat DJ Kicks (come in unmixed versions)

These are both excellent. Motor City Drum Ensemble, Kode9, and Scuba had some good mixes too.

I liked Modeselektor's Boogeybytes Mix and their Modeselektions comps as well: diverse and interesting dance music.

Alright, also a big compilation nut here. Will try to list my faves here. The Braindance Coincidence is my fave one by far. The Sub Rosa Anthology ones mentioned above are also really worth checking out if you are into highly experimental and noise music. For other electronic music history compilations these are essential:

http://www.discogs.com/Various-Popular-Electronics-Early-Dutch-Electronic-Music-From-Philips-Research-Laboratories-1956-196/release/310002

http://www.discogs.com/BBC-Radiophonic-Workshop-Music-From-The-BBC-Radiophonic-Workshop/release/

For electro of the Legowelt type or dark brooding stuff from the Hague's Bunker, check out:

http://www.discogs.com/Various-You-Bet-Weve-Got-Something-Personal-Against-You/master/15668

http://www.discogs.com/Various-Stalingrad-Der-Krieg-Der-Wahnsinn/release/1992208

For the best compilation of Italo disco and early electro in two really amazing mixes:

http://www.discogs.com/Various-Mixed-Up-In-The-Hague-Vol-1/master/10830

http://www.discogs.com/I-f-Mixed-Up-In-The-Hague-Vol-2/master/10812

If you're interested in metal (ALL compilations by Fenriz are worth the listen imo):

http://www.discogs.com/Various-Fenriz-Presents-The-Best-Of-Old-School-Black-Metal/master/159678

A really laid back sunny summery mix of psychedelic rock from Peru:

http://www.discogs.com/Various-The-Roots-Of-Chicha-Psychedelic-Cumbias-From-Peru/master/451522

Interesting music from Trinidad between '34 and '40:

http://www.discogs.com/Various-Shango-Shouter-Obeah-Supernatural-Calypso-From-Trinidad-1934-1940/release/3853829

And my favorite as of late:

http://www.discogs.com/Theo-Parrish-Theo-Parrishs-Black-Jazz-Signature/release/4665839

That one is mixed by the master of all DJ's, hardly mixing on this one but it compiles jazz from the 70's from a specific label (Black Jazz) and it is astonishing.
