Actually not the first time I've read a Wesley Wills Kool Keith comparison before. I don't really agree though. I mean shit, If anyone sounds and/or acts like Kool Kieth (at times) it's Tracy Morgan.

I was mostly joking about that, there's a slight similarity in their delivery I think, Willis was obviously completely insane, and Kool Keith is slightly insane, so there's that too I guess.

I genuinely enjoy a lot of modern pop stuff - Charli XCX, Miley Cyrus, Taylor Swift, all great. I don't think any of it's terrible. Similarly, I can genuinely hear quality in some Coldplay stuff (Viva La Vida is probably in my top 20 albums of all time) but seem to be largely alone in that when it comes to proper music fans.

Completely on the '90s Ibiza trance stuff, love most of it. The production is so utterly flat and plasticky and terrible and everything that's wrong with commercial dance music, but with tunes like this who cares...

I have a morbid fascination with the post-Franke, pre-Thorsten 'dark ages' of Tangerine Dream:

And a couple of songs I love that I've yet to meet anybody else who's willing to defend:

i have to admit I do find some of the stuff of Triangle records a guilty pleasure, but I find it objectively atrocious

i actually *like* this song believe it or not its hilarious but also it's one of the only 'pop' songs Jerry Goldsmith actually made (and i have a soft spot for any of his compositions)

loooool "where they draw FIRST BLOOD.. that's just the start of it" "it's a real war right outside your front door i'll tell yah, out where they'll kill ya you could use a friend"

i also like symphonic /synth heavy butt rock vibes from the early 80s/late 70s. It's a weird melding of hair metal aesthetics/screaming style vocals but with instrumentation that would never be acceptable for any heavy metal or rock act from the time period

examples:

I really want to find more shit like this actually. Anyone know of any other bands that literally just used synths and drums and had butt rocky vocals? It's really appealing to me lol. In some ways it even has kind of Human League vibe but i could see most new wave/synth pop fans finding this stuff absolutely appaling.

I'm listening to A$AP Ferg's Trap Lord because Justin Broadrick repped it, and I gotta say... not bad. I'd written off A$AP Mob as wastemanz, and while their subject matter does leave much to be desired, the the production is tight (points for dat sub) and the flow is decent.

does have a party-at-the-end-of-the-world kinda vibe to it which I dig.

updated assessment: A$AP Mob is still wastemanz, but the production is deece. give me instrumentals.

I just love the song. Makes me happy no matter what

I agree! Not atrocious at all. Pharell is pretty good at making tracks that I think majority of people like.

But heres an unpopular opinion: I like Lana Del Rey.

To me her music and her image in general kinda gives off the Chris Isaak - cheesy love song americana anthem vibe. And a lot of her lyrics are kinda dumb but that's what makes it kinda charming.

My gf was playing Lana Del Ray...it's shite but she sounds gorgeous in places. I actually think there is a lot of value in listening to pop music, it's shite but it's immediate and instantly appealing. I also like some K-Pop which is seriously shit..but the link below is basically 4/4 techno.

I dare you to watch it! haha.

It might just be that I like eastern girls. If anyone knows more decent K-Pop link it here. I lived there for a year and it was mostly god awfully bad...but some of it is essentially stripped back house/techno which is kinda nice.

I enjoy that 2NE1 song far too much. I was actually annoyed when I saw it used in some advert (also, some other add that used Grimes' Genesis that felt really unfitting).

My friend that likes Kpop has gotten me to like a few songs, they still give me shit for liking Dazzling Girl because of "what else I listen to."

I'm mostly picking songs I like, because a lot of them have tracks I really dislike, but then there's these. While not Kpop really, Epik High is generally good, in my opinion.

Not Kpop, but I'll just use this post to say that capsule is/was fantastic (I'm a bit miffed that the most recent is a collection of drops).

Ha, just saw this post. Nice one! I remember watching a video of Mike Paradinas describing how Japanese footwork music is essentially a copy of generic footwork but with the occasional weird spin off which makes it really unique. This is exactly why I'm interested in music which is kind of a re-hash of the basics of a genre but accidently subverts it in interesting ways...for instance I listen to Sepultura A LOT recently and it's influenced by lots of brazilian/s.american tribal rhythms that are incredible to my ear.

I think it's mostly because their drummer is amazingly good.

Oh god, I couldn't cope with the first two videos. The third has really nice piano bits. They look like final fantasy 7 characters!!! haha.Nah, actually I can't handle it.

It's funky house right? This is actually well produced to my ear. But the vocals are shite. This music is so good when you're wasted on soju..perhaps it's made for that.

I like MAP THE SOUL - HipHop breaks with strings always work. German Hip-Hop is kinda shit but really cool in the same way that this is pleasurable:

I often think that musicians who originate from another non-western culture have an 'advantage' as their music can be a sum of relatively more influences including of course to language switch which can phonetically speaking simply sound 'better'. German rap sounds really cool for instance and women speaking Hindi is so musically rhythmic it's untrue. Korean sounds a bit odd to me at times.

Capsule is tolerable. It's auto-tuned to fuck tho right? But it sounds cool.

Right, I'm monologuing! It's a cool idea for a music thread I think.

Oh wow, the last video has a wicked sounding bass-line...generic but it's interesting.
