I thought Exciter was a huge letdown after hearing Mark Bell was producing it. Music For the Masses is still my favorite.

I still like Exciter. Compared to albums that came later, Exciter sounds like a masterpiece.

of course dm were trying to appeal to th masses as usual and all things considered i think it turned out quite well. i was also wishing tht he'd take a few more chances / steer them in a specific direction but i think he was just kinda along for their  ride mostly..

They've been a mixed bag these last ten years.

Joyrex, remember 2005? Didn't DM and BOC have an album out the same week?

Agreed - it's interesting though, because with recent DM releases (Delta Machine, SOTU), I seem to either be indifferent or hate them at first, and then months, sometimes years later, I go back to them and discover more tracks I initially didn't like, I now like (but not love).

For me, DM reached their pinnacle with Violator and Songs of Faith and Devotion. I still hold hope they'll recapture that greatness once again, but if they end up putting out a few good songs here and there, that's not a bad thing.

It will be interesting to see what James Ford brings to their stuff - I think this is the first time he's ever worked with them.

New single is out tomorrow. I hope it's good. DM suffer from that old problem.

Masses of expensive gear. Nice studio. Any sound available at their fingertips.

And yet not a single interesting musical idea.

I like the synths a lot - not quite sold on the lyrics though (a bit too topical, IMO) - and the song honestly could have ended at 3:25 before the whole "train" bit stretched it out.

Hopeful, so let's see what the rest of the album holds. Hopefully this wasn't the highlight.

Here's the details and tracklisting for the regular and deluxe versions:

"Where's The Revolution" is the first new music from the band in four years and the first offering from their upcoming album, Spirit.  Available now for preorder, Spirit will be released digitally and physically worldwide as a standard 12 track album on March 17th on Columbia Records.  The band will also release a 2-CD Deluxe version of the album featuring a special 28-page booklet of exclusive artwork and photos, along with 5 remixes created by Depeche Mode, Matrixxman and Kurt Uenala, collectively entitled the 'Jungle Spirit Mixes'.  The vinyl version of Spirit will be released on two 180 gram LPs, featuring the standard album and a special SPIRIT etching on the 4th side. All artwork and photographs accompanying the album are by Depeche Mode's longtime creative collaborator and renowned filmmaker Anton Corbijn.

Spirit marks the band's first collaboration with producer James Ford of Simian Mobile Disco (Foals, Florence & The Machine, Arctic Monkeys) and serves as the follow up to the band's blockbuster 2013 album Delta Machine which debuted at #1 in 12 countries. Says Gahan of the release, "We are exceptionally proud of Spirit, and we look forward to sharing it with everyone. With James Ford and the rest of the production team, we've made an album that I believe is truly powerful, both in its sound and its message."

Wasn't expecting to be too much into this as I haven't been too much into anything from their last 4 or so albums but this is tickling me in many good ways.

The synths are indeed very nice. I also like the lyrics.

Now I'm extra bummed that I'm going to miss the only show they're doing over here.

I quite like the new track. Gone are the days when I loved every track on their albums - that ended with Playing The Angel.

However, the last few albums have always had a few good tracks on them.

If they come through Houston on this tour, I am certainly going to make an effort to go - this may be one of the last times they tour.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. Simply unable to afford a ticket though and by now it's sold out so it will probably be mostly scalper prices from now on.

Please post a trip report if you see them.

They're holding a kind-of lottery for tickets in the US: Fans can register now for early access to tickets at presale.depechemode.com. By registering, fans will reserve a spot in line for the fan presale, which they can then improve by sharing their unique presale link with friends and family, or by preordering Depeche Mode's new album Spirit. On March 6, days before tickets go on general sale to the public, fans who have registered will be let into a special ticket presale in waves, based on their place in line.

Tour dates: http://depechemode.com/tour

Gonna be in my neck of the woods September 24th and tickets go on sale March 10, March 7th for AT&T customers.

Official video for Where's The Revolution:

And, they will be performing the song on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, tonight, March 1st.
