  1. Three cuts that I'm really partial to on this album are, in no particular order, os veix3, redfall, and O=0. I need to listen to this album quite a bit more than I have in recent years... been hard for me to give it a fair shake since it's so different from a lot of their other music... you know? For me, Exai and L-event picked up right where Quarisitice left off and those are some of my absolute fave from Sean and Rob; the former two feel like delving a bit further, with a significant upgrade of sonic clarity and less jamminess than the former. There are definitely moments of NTS Sessions 1-4 that feel like Oversteps in a big way to me, most immediately obvious example would be column thirteen.
  2. First listenthru of his new album and liking it a bunch
  3. I've still only heard A Strangely Isolated Place and Far Away Trains Passing By but none of his more recent things or even anything under one of his aliases. I'll have to do some investigating, any particular things you'd recommend, folks?
  4. The thing that's great about these Behringer knockoffs of classic synths is they are affordable to the common person who might not have lots of money to spend on gear.

The run of music (of course including the unmissable gig at the Glasgow Art School) from Confield through and including Quaristice (and all the accompanying EPs, as well as Quaristice Versions, not to mention those live sets) is one of the most amazing things in all of music and was topped/equaled* only because Sean and Rob are unfuckwithable sonic wizard maestros of the highest order. With almost any other artist, band, or group, this would be their best work hands down. *The run from L-event and Exai through and including NTS Sessions 1-4, is truly ineffably gorgeous and alien.

Really digging spTh right now, revisiting elseq 5Really digging spTh right now, revisiting elseq 5
  7. "Weed Smoker's Eve" is better known as Bicycle Day and d-lysergic acid diethylamide is significantly more IDM than delta-9-cannabinol I am suuuuuuper stoked for this! Gonna hear The Fucking Daddy live and just over a week before I get married!
  8. New Andy Stott is always a cause for celebration! The man can do no or next to no wrong in the studio imo; Wondered when he'd put out some new material and then out of nowhere I saw someone had put this release in full on the tubes! (P.S. There are two zebrae!)
  9. Love it, and damn near everything else the man has put out.

As has been said earlier, part of the fun is hearing a lot of familiar* patches/sounds, but given a Sean & Rob spin. This stuff is definitely significantly more danceable than Lego Feet for the most part. Which is not to say it isn't a blast to listen to. To me this really solidifies something about those apocryphal tales of the lads exchanging mixtapes with one another, making homemade edits of songs they like, jamming out to Mantronix, etc. I can definitely imagine someone mountain biking around Sheffield with these jams on their Walkman. *Much of the sonic palette would be familiar to someone versed in old rave music as well as house, techno, and other popular late eighties-early nineties electronic sounds of those sorts. In this way, it might sound "more dated" but it has perhaps aged better than Incunabula.
  11. I generally enjoy his music from throughout his career, so am feeling quite stoked for this, really.
  12. I hope they will still have the elseq 1-5 shirts in a few months when I can justify spending some money on one

    elseq 1-5

Best fucking band ever? Hell yeah! And those album covers designed by Josef Albers definitely are reminiscent of the elseq art. Reminds me of how similar some of the art for Quadrange (and individual tracks on Quaristice) were to Kazimir Malevitch and other abstract suprematist types. If you were to paint the elseq art in the style of the Oversteps track artwork, it'd really remind me of Robert Motherwell.

How is it more disappointing? Sonically, maybe? But for me the people who cut off at Amber are especially irksome because it's only the 'chre's second album
  15. Yeah, Dial. and Cap.IV are absolutely fantastic; Gantz Graf is one of my favourite of their EPs, the style exhibited in these two songs is definitely something I could use more of, that seems to be vaguely echoed in Etchogon-S

I don't think that every Ae release is better than the one before it, one after the other, after the other in a simple way so that the absolute newest thing is always the absolute best, but they are do get better and better, which I don't know how many bands you can say that about. I enjoy almost everything they've ever put out, not surprising considering they're my favourite band... But I do think that they've reached such jaw dropping, colossal heights in this decade that it's absolutely fucking staggering. I am fairly certain, that elseq 1-5 is going to remain my favourite of theirs. Oversteps doesn't sound that much like anything else (besides Move of Ten lol), but as far as I'm concerned, elseq expands on some ideas that were only begun to be hinted at on Exai, l-event, and Quaristice (even with all the bonus fun of Quaristice (versions) and the Quadranges). The fact that some people can't listen to them post LP5 is still so incredibly sad to me. Even worse are those who only like Incunabula and Amber.
  17. The cheery opening section of the song reminds me of Drane2 a little and the rattling percussion, brrrddrrrddrrrrdrr. I also really love those breathy/flute-y whatever parts later in the song.
  18. Apologies if I already said so in here but I'd like to throw my name in as another person who finds a lot of the ideas in this thread truly insightful and what this forum's all about
  19. Pre-ordered the 8 CD box set and I don't think I'll regret it
  20. elseq quadrange equivalent would be totally kickass
  21. So, some of this seems like stuff we heard on the livesets but some definitely seems previously unheard! Stoked beyond belief for Twelb!
  22. Don't know what you mean about being the "campfire" bit, but seconded completely on the second clause
  23. Quite possibly the best song on elseq, to say the least
  24. gtfo marf. Realiti was cool and I look forward to her new album but I hope it's more like that than some of the other things but I still dug her albums before.
