Russia is now bombing Ukraine

Politics is banned from my annual summer barbecue (which is probably in its 20th year). It was bought up once and all of a sudden the garden turned into a Mexican standoff, with me and Mike as the negotiators. Such a toxic subject which seems to bring the worst out of people. It’s why I never get involved with it, even here. I guess it’s a necessary evil. But you know I’m still interested in what goes on and what makes things tick but with an apolitical view point. Have a nice day ??

Why are you so desperate to defend Putin? I understand that you have a far-left or communist worldview but Putin is not even a communist

US internet infrastructure company Cogent Communications said on Friday that it is ending relationships with its Russian customers, including the state-owned Russian telecoms Rostelecom and TransTelekom. The global internet is interdependent, and Russia has other backbone providers besides Cogent to stay connected to the world, but the company is one of the biggest. Cogent said it weighed the risks that some people in Russia will lose global connectivity against the possibility that the Russian government will benefit from Cogent's service in mounting disinformation campaigns and hacks against Ukrainian targets.

big T has a plan on how to beat Russia:

Quote

During a speech to donors in New Orleans, Louisiana, on Saturday evening, Trump again addressed the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine. The former president floated the idea of attempting to turn Moscow and Beijing against each other—suggesting that the U.S. could disguise F-22 fighter jets with Chinese flags "and bomb the sh*t out" out of Russia, according to audio reported by Washington Post journalist Josh Dawsey.

"And then we say, China did it, we didn't do, China did it, and then they start fighting with each other and we sit back and watch" - Big T

and a major chinese investment bank (AIIB) has decided "all activities relating to Russia and Belarus are on hold and under review"

Your previous posts in this thread came across like that. If you don't support Putin and don't think he's a communist, that's great!

if shit happened in U.S. like it did in Russia with Putin and all, would the rest of the world have the power to cut them out of the Swift system? Asking for a friend.

ability to sanction is universal among countries, any country can stop using USD and stop using SWIFT and sanction any other country, assuming they arent violating treaties or ruining friendships, but it is only effective with the global financial hegemon backing the sanctions, which is the US.  sanctions are not effective against the US because of its status as the head of global capitalism.  the idea that the world would ever cut the US out from SWIFT is laughable and not even remotely an option.  if it was, and other countries wanted to impose penalties based on actual morality, they would already be out, because of what they do militarily worldwide for decades.  but the US is the leader in economic warfare.  what other countries do have the option to do is remove their own dependence on SWIFT like what India is doing with Russia

it's already established there are nazi groups operating in ukraine.. some in support of ukraine and some in support of russia. this isn't a surprise but is a bummer. "enemy of my enemy is my friend??"  i don't know.. choices were made.. doesn't mean all of ukraine is a nazi.

probably what would happen is saudi would trade oil in euros instead of dollars or wahtever.. i think part of the deal w/saudi.. made when USA went in and sent the contractors to build up infrastructure and make the deal of the century was that they had to use US dollars as currency for the oil exchange.  there's lot's of talk back around gulf war 2 about iraq and some others switching to euros for trading oil which would've made the dolar plummet or something.. though that was a lifetime ago and i forget the details so could be messing this all up.

interesting all im seeing is on ukraine side.  no, "enemy of my enemy is my friend" saying does not justify alliances with nazis

well it's not just oil that's on the table, and if i'm not mistaken, usa has enough oil reserves for themselves.

yeah it was both gaddafi and hussein who wanted to trade oil in euros as far as i remember.

go tell it on a mountain.

srsly though.. there's plenty of pro russian nazi groups in ukraine.. this was established years ago.  if you dig around about the previous russian aggression towards ukraine.. 2014.. you'll find some stuff.

there is no 'ideal' situation here. i mean.. it's a war. choices are made.  hands are tied. hard to get the house in order when someone is trying to burn it down.

Putin's government has a history of engaging with right-wing nationalist groups in Russia. While the nationalism displayed by the Night Wolves isn't new, rights groups say Putin has harnessed it to support his imperialistic tendencies, maintain his grip on power, and oppress minority groups like LGBT Russians, ethnic minorities, and political dissidents.

doesn't everyone here already know though? if someone makes it passed their 19th or so birthday w/o knowing some dirt on the world.. idk.. i have nothing to say. everyone should get a few noam chomsky, howard zinn (or whatever is relevant in their home country), etc books early in life.. history of colonialism should be taught to 8 year olds... and at 12 should have to read the book Sapiens (or similar)
