Im starting a thread for this kind of thing. Like audio types of things that are interesting or not mainstream but do cool things. Im not talking about plugins necessarly but just wierd shit from the INTERNET. http://galan.sourceforge.net/ A lot of the cool stuff is linux but theres also some windows stuff. Anyways, post some utilities and stuff here you find so there a place to reference to these things.

So I'm thinking about getting some Reel To Reel recording stuff for my studio, but it'd be my main form of recording all of my music. All I have right now, is a shitty portable Mini-disc recorder, with a little 1/8" jack to put into it, which for random outside recordings is decent (though mine skips like mad and pisses the shit outta me). So I was thinking reel to reel would be fun, and would get some good tones. But I was thinking a Multi-tracker of some sort would probally be a lot more practical, but I know little about either, and then when it comes to multi-tracker I'm not sure if I want digital or not. (probally digital, and in that case I don't know which one…

I think there was something posted about this before. I have a game controller for my computer and was wondering if it's possible to hook it up through Fruity as a controller to adjust res/cut or fx or any crazy shit like that. Any links to how-to documentation would be great as I am a total noob when it comes to hooking up external controllers. I've only ever used the mouse to control things. <3

Building kits in garage band?

I just figured out how to transfer vinyl onto my computer, and I want to make some beats. I only have Renoise and Garage band on my computer. Renoise is incredibly confusing, and Garage band is too limited for what I'm trying to do. Is there free sequencing software online that's a little easier to work with than Renoise, or should I just try to get better with Renoise? EDIT: I should've changed the title.

as retaliation for Stephen Colbert hearing a john lennon christmas song perverted by political anti war lyrics stephen colbert is making an open call to anybody with audio remixing skills to do Beatles White album mashups with famous christmas songs. This is an unofficial contest similar to his green screen thing, the entires should be posted here of course but to get it on his show they should probably be posted to the colbernation.com forum. im too lazy to work on one for the contest, but i wanted to pass the information along to any interested parties. edit: this open call was first announced on last night's episode (12/11/06)

how do i rip the music from 'Duke nukem-Time to Kill'? i have not found it searching the net...i remember a program a while back that enabled this to work, but it did not work for me, or maybe i was just not experienced with ripping music from games. i do not want to simply record the music off the game whilst it is playing=shit quality and other noises interfere. maybe it uses midi/not wav, but midi to sequence the music in the game, maybe so that when a new interaction occurs in the game music changes. there was this red/black (layout) website which explained this, but i think i remember it just not working/or not working for me. please help, this…

Review on Vintagesynth Remember the all-tube monosynth that (the demos suggested) would sound like NIN no matter what you did with it and cost a small car to buy? Someone bought one and reviewed it... And wrote a bad industrial song about it... :ermm:

Anyone know a decent use for one of these? Beyond posing wit me analogue, cutting my fingers with splicing knives, and generally wasting hours doing stuff that could be done digitally in seconds? I only ask coz I just found one in the attic. It's beaten to fuck, but seems to be in perfect working order. I recorded an accordion solo and played it backwards speeded up. Yup, seems to be working.

Check it out. Guy has his Geforce 7200 AGP computing a 1 second delay line in a VST. Uses almost no CPU juice doing it either (since the delay is running off of the graphics card). Incredibly cool!

so im fucking sick of my computer as far as music is concerned, makes me want to punch it over and over again would it be better to get a little 8-16 track cd recorder unit to write some tunes on my 101 and emx-1 , or a hardware sequencer, considering that im not massicely rich and cant really spend more thanb 400 quid

BPM WARZ!
by Guest TooMuchLush- 6 replies

I saw a friend do a show at mellow house party, where he was running ableton live. He was ripping it up, doing pretty basic shit with the lappy. I was totally inspired, and decided we should do a laptop battle set. Usually, I put a rediculous amount of time and thought into computer based compositions and spend too much time programming and what not. With putting a wicked hot dance party on in mind, I've coined the idea of a.... BPM WAR!!!: Designate a said tempo, and produce some great dance tracks (beats and bass weight in mind) to that said tempo. I've sent my mate the BPM's i have in mind (via text message), and we'll work on our tracks separately. When we both have a…
