SYRO Artwork Thoughts

I wish they'd make a t-shirt of the dot pattern face on the front of the special edition lp

*jots note down to WARP*

kickstarter for fold face vector file

Until the stretch goals are met or exceeded, here's a sloppy version made in about 67 seconds to tide potential backers over.

From what I've seen it looks amazing. Simple but extremely well executed - it feels "under-designed" which I like. The infographic to do with all of the equipment used on every track is incredible. The photos with the Aphex logo in the sleeves are awesome

Interview with TDR: https://www.grafik.net/category/feature/warp-all#

“We've had the album since December. It wasn't one hundred per cent finished at that point, but I started talking to Ian round about that time. Richard specifically asked for Ian”

So Richard probably wasn't lying when he said he handed the finished album to Warp six months ago.

Now that many of us have a copy of the album in our hands, any new thoughts?

I personally think it is beautiful art work. Maybe even a statement or even apology on how this is why releasing a record kind of sucks? The tracks are such a small portion, and then comes an avalanche listing of energy and money spent on things that aren't really music at all (and which Richard probably isn't that into to say the least).

And then inside the covers on the vinyl are these beautiful shots of a strange looking sculpture. any guesses on whatit is? That part reminds me ofthe warm photography on drukqs.

As the music plays, i am having strong emotional reactions to this whole package design.

If you add the limited edition digitized foldie face the whole package is even more impressive! Kind of hoping I get the dreaded golden ticket!

I don't mind the design, its nice and clean and a original concept. I'm just a little disappointed the foldface wasn't included even as a foldout/booklet thing inside.

I can appreciate the design for what it's trying to say, but I would have preferred the foldface as it's more "Aphex Twin" than what they ended up going with.

I might try my hand at a custom SYRO package...

It's the raw vinyl that's later gonna be pressed and become the very record you're holding in your hands. And most of your questions have been answered by Richie Rich himself in the various interviews he's done

I like it all. It's fun reading it. It's also fun to see people standing and reading the album in the record store.

I also love how it's reflection of all of these benign financial details ends up being a smack at commercialism by shining a light on exactly that. It's kind of the exact opposite of Led Zeppelin. There's absolutely no theatre in it.

Edit.

... haha! Except the blimp is exactly like led zeppelin. I forgot about that.

This whole strategy will only work if they are pressing a fixed amount of copies for each format, right? So once things will sell out there won't be any identical represses i guess. Wonder how many copies they're doing of each edition

this intaglio print, the track on it 'SYROBONKUS', is this the same as CIRCLONT6A (Syrobonkus Mix)?

is it possible to play it like a flexi? probably would tear it.

i dunno, i can't see these things ending up worth more than what theyre asking for. a print and acrylic case for £300 odd, feck that

I kind of agree. during a listening session at my buddy's house on Saturday night, I made him change the album art from the green circle to fold face on his monitor. it def changed the experience when you looked up and saw that image during a crazy moment vs the lifeless green circle.

That's funny. I have no idea if it's related or not, but I noticed when the ".onion" Tor site is loading, it seems (based on the actions in my browser's status bar) to be sending and/or data to Facebook, for some reason. The strange thing is that the browser is supposed to be protected. Weird.

the vinyl has the vinyl 'puck' on there - what's on the CD art?

Behold...

... the nothingness!

They should have made the disc the same colour as the Aphex/SYRO logo (and made a large Aphex logo filling up the entire disc)

I love it. It's clean, elegant and informative. I'm actually glad they went with this design and not the fold face. I've never really been a fan of Richard's face on covers (I know, heresy).

you don't still believe that fairytale surely? its just photos of raw vinyl puckers, which probably went on to become 6 rustie vinyls
