's = shows fucking possession

it's = ???

it's = it fucking is

its = a fucking possessive pronoun, just like "my", "his", "her", "our". For example:

I eat my sandwich

He eats his sandwich

It eats its sandwich

One eats one's sandwich

Note how no possessive pronouns have an apostrophe except for "one's". So "its" isn't really an exception, "one's" is the exception.

I'm going to assume that people are seriously making these mistakes, and not just trolling.

jane's X

dad's X

mom's X

its X

"It" is a pronoun, so it behaves differently. Just like "his", "her", "our", and so on. If you want to make a noun possessive, you add an apostrophe and an s.

Examples:

Jane -> Jane's

dad -> dad's

If you want to make a pronoun possessive, you switch it to the possessive form, which doesn't have an apostrophe in it (with the exception of "one's").

Examples:

he -> his

me -> my

we -> our

it -> its

jane's x means that jane is x, bro. jane doesn't have x.

-you're grammarian

if it wasn't clear.. :wink:

Jane's can be either a contraction of "Jane is", or the possessive of "Jane".

Examples:

Jane's mom is a bitch (possessive)

Jane's a bitch (contraction)

jane may have X

and she definitely has a car

Jane has a car.

Jane may have a car.

Notice how the verb "to have" changes form when you add another verb in there. There are more examples.

Jane does have a car.

Indeed.

Now here's a funny picture:
