Comic Books / Graphic Novels thread

I just read Crossed vols 1 and 2. lol Garth Ennis, he crazy, eh wot?

I don't know why I'm reading this. the only substance here is in vol 1, beyond that it's largely not written by Ennis, features shitty characters you couldn't give a shit about, and basically descends into voyeuristic gore/rape porn. even vol 1 isn't great on the characters and the writing is pretty bare, but... it does explore certain depths of depravity that I've never seen in comic form before (thanks Avatar) and when you're in the mood for sadism with an apocalyptic bent, it's an ok fix.

highlights so far:

- a couple being raped and disemboweled as their child is torn to pieces in front of them

- a Crossed leader beating his victims and followers alike to death with a horsecock, while yelling "horsecock!"

- an underage girl being raped and impregnated by her father, turning Crossed, then C-sectioning herself and eating babby

- a woman deliberately turning herself Crossed, then promptly mutilating her vagina with a knife, inserting it handle-end into herself and deepthroating her abusive husband (the child rapist above) to death - symbolism!

just some lighthearted bedtime reading innit.

This last Saturday was Free Comic Book Day, the 15th year. I went to about 3 different shops and picked up all the freebies which seemed to be a lot higher quality this year.

Also picked up a bunch of additional purchases for 30% off...

Gotham Central: Book 3
The Dark Knight 3: Book 4

Batman: Castle of the Bat one-shot
Preacher: Book 5

Hellblazer: Book 5

Should keep me pretty busy for a while, along with keeping up to date with Limbo.

Comixology is launching a [uS-only] subscription service today. It looks like you can only read the first few issues/volumes of the books available. $5.99/mo

does anyone understand DC Rebirth at all? It seems like an apology for New 52, except the Watchmen are merging with New Earth, and Doctor Manhattan is responsible for this? Wtf

first bit of info coming out, on the english print of Moebius' back catalogue.

starting with The World of Edena (( including “Upon a Star,” “Gardens of Edena,” “The Goddess,” “Stel,” and “Sra.” )) out october 26.

have read both Upon a star and Gardens of edena. both very lovely and very strongly linked to what moebius is generally all about. will still pick this up for the newly translated-to-english exclusives.

super super happy to see this stuff finally getting the english printing it deserves !!! looooong time overdue holy shit.

If it's in the bullshit comic-book format instead of the original album size then it's a complete waste.

In the early 2000's some publisher recolored the work and published the albums in comic-book format, not only Incal but also Metabarons, it looked really dull and dark, a complete disservice. I hope they also bring Blueberry in English, reading the series was a truly unique experience to say the least, amazing writing.

I haven't even finished reading everything I picked up for free comic book day but I had to grab a few of the Rebirth #1 issues, grabbed all that weren't sold out

Batman #1

Detective Comics #1

Action Comics #1

Aquaman #1
DC Universe Rebirth Special

and also.. the old DC vs Aliens crossover arc collected trade because I used to have a couple back in the day and they're just mindless fun 90's era crossover stories

Recently reacquired the first 55 issues of Spawn in the original trade format for most of them...

Spawn's still one of the best drawn comic heros, McFarlane is a great artist, and as always Greg Capullo's art is amazing...

Picked up Issue #48 of New 52 Batman, probably one of my fav Capullo covers...

Anyone a fan of Irredeemable here?

How do you think it compares to other comics like it, or are there any like it?

never thought i'd get into a super-hero type comic - but this one has me hooked

Really digging the newer art direction it took, wasn't much a fan of the early issues style

(only on issue 35 so no spoilers plz :mu-ziq:)
