But I reckon that's out the window now. Believe me, I feel just as perplexed by this celeb-ocracy trend as you guys. And I hope it isn't permanent, or Idiocracy will be confirmed as reality - although that already seems to be the case.

Does anyone care to give a quick summary of what this is all about? from the reddit thread... Context: Glenn R. Simpson is the co-founder of Fusion GPS. Fusion GPS is a company that gathers intelligence and advises clients on what to do, based on what they know. In 2015, Fusion GPS was hired by a conservative website, The Washington Free Beacon, to do opposition research on Trump and other GOP candidates. In spring 2016, Trump becomes the front-runner, and the business relationship ends. Shortly after, the Clinton campaign hires Fusion GPS to continue their research. Christopher Steele, a private British corporate intelligence investigator and former MI-6 agent leads the research for Fusion GPS. The 35 page series of memos which Steele produces becomes the Trump Dossier. Here, Simpson is being interviewed for "activities related to the dossier compiled by Christopher Steele, the Prevezon Case, and the Magnitsky Act." Edit: The Magnitsky Act was an Obama Era act meant to punish the Russians for allowing Russian tax accountant Sergei Magnitsky to be beaten to death in a Moscow prison for investigating tax fraud amongst Russian officials. Russia responds by banning the adoption of Russian children by Americans and banning some US officials from Russia. A Russian lawyer met with Trump Jr. to lobby against the act, and offer the Trump campaign incriminating information against Clinton. In 2013 the US Department of Justice, represented by Preet Bharara sues Prevezon Holding, a Republic of Cyprus corporation registered in New York, under the Magnitsky Act for money-laundering. In May 2017, two months after Trump dismisses Bharara, the lawsuit is settled for $6 million, without Prevezon admitting wrong-doing and both sides claiming victory.
