^ no time like #now for the #now movement. We must fight to destory those things about ourselves that we don't do for those who assume we do them, for the good of everyone. Stand with us #now

Exclusive: Despite tensions, Russia seeks U.S. help to rebuild Syria

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Russia has used a closely guarded communications channel with America’s top general to propose the two former Cold War foes cooperate to rebuild Syria and repatriate refugees to the war-torn country, according to a U.S. government memo.

The action-movie star Steven Seagal has played a former C.I.A. agent, a hit man and a killer of criminals. On Saturday, Russian officials tapped him for another role: special representative to improve relations between the United States and Russia.

The Russian Foreign Ministry announced the appointment on Facebook, saying his mission will include promoting “relations between Russia and the United

States in the humanitarian field, including cooperation in culture, arts, public and youth exchanges.”

So a guy I know personally through family, Jim Morhard, is trumps pick for nasa chief. This guy literally was a lawyer and then worked as a senate aide. He knows NOTHING about the space program. He isn’t a scientist, a manager, a problem solver or anything that would qualify a person to be second in command for the entire us space program. I can’t wait to see how he embarrasses himself.

With any luck, he'll be at a banquet in a tuxedo and during a toast to his new position his pants will fall down, the suspenders will fly up and smack him in the face while having a perfectly timed cartoon boink sound.

Wasn't sure whether to put this in here, brexit thread or strange news but this one is closest to the top and I am lazy

https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2018/aug/05/far-right-protesters-ransack-socialist-bookshop-bookmarks-in-london

The campaign group Stand Up To Racism, speaking on behalf of Bookmarks, said some of the attackers carried placards reading “British Bolshevik Cult” and that one of those involved wore a Donald Trump mask.

A far-right protest against censorship of the conspiracy theory website Infowars took place in central London on Saturday at which protesters were seen with the same placards. Others wore “Make Britain Great Again” caps.

Time to refresh this...

But I think everyone knew that even before he was accused.

This is the first thing I thought of. Putin is trying to capitalize on the corruption of our political system, and found another scumbag celebrity of ours to insert and involve in US - Russia relations. It's totally gotta be intentional and it makes perfect sense.

That's how it is done these days. Less hassle to just outpromote some way-out guy than to spend millions and thousands of man-hours lobbying to get the expertise in. Too tied in academia and possibly too moral to do any dirty work anyways. So the new way is to get an ambitious guy, make his dream come true, and he's all yours. It's not about expertise or long-term strategy, just extensions of power centers.

Exactly. It's a big joke. And the West is falling for it immensely.

This is the least shocking thing I've read on this thread in awhile. We're at the point now where I actually look at Rick Perry's appointment to the Energy Department as one of the more reasonable Trump admin picks.

Best case scenerio he just goes through the motions like that possibly robot of a congressman in Parks And Rec

"He is a survivor of the 2010 Alaska DHC-3 Otter crash that killed five others onboard, including Senator Ted Stevens of Alaska." - Unrelated to him or his qualifications that's a hell of a thing to experience firsthand.

The West Hollywood City Council will vote Monday night on a resolution urging the Los Angeles City Council and Hollywood Chamber of Commerce to permanently remove Donald Trump’s Walk of Fame star.

"The City Council will consider adopting a resolution urging the Los Angeles City Council and Hollywood Chamber of Commerce to remove President Donald J. Trump’s star from the Hollywood Walk of Fame, due to his disturbing treatment of women and other actions that do not meet the shared values of the City of West Hollywood, the region, state, and country," reads the agenda item for the Monday meeting.

Wonder what Gates is gonna say this afternoon...

He put most of it out there from what little I read...they said he stopped short on a couple things, but discussed multiple very illegal things done together over many years. I'm assuming they're going to back this up with lots of evidence, given that naturally the defense is going to try to destroy Gates' credibility. From the takes I heard today from lawyers on TV news, Manafort ain't got much of a shot at getting out of this.

Except perhaps a pardon after the sentencing, of course. :)
