Discogs deal goes awry

Recommended Posts

I showed interest in a record but by the time the seller got back to me with shipping details I found a better deal elsewhere. I messaged saying im not interested ( Which went fine with every other record I backed out of) and this particular person is pissed saying I can't back out and that's not how it works.

Am I in the wrong?

I didn't pay so they can kick and scream but im not giving them my fucking money.

How it works is you send money and they send a product.  If you haven't sent money, they send no product and find another buyer.  Any kicking and screaming on their end is icing on the cake.

How did you show your interest?

Beware of bad feedback.

Non-Paying Buyer - The buyer has not paid for this order after 4 days of having the ability to pay. Automated negative feedback is left for the buyer with this cancellation status. The feedback will state: "No payment received from buyer after # days". Buyers who receive this automated negative feedback cannot leave feedback in return.

Unless still unclear: "I showed interest in a record", if that means that you didn't place an order, but merely inquired shipping rates etc., you've all the right in the world to say thanks but no thanks without any hassle. If you already placed an order, well, it goes kinda against the etiquette to cancel the order just for the sake of it. In general, sellers are fine if you have a good reason, but just saying you found a better deal is little so and so. On the other hand if you had to wait the seller to answer, say, five days imo you're morally forgiven. Of course they won't shoot you or ban you from the site if you don't pay, but getting too much bad feedback may make your future orders more difficult. Again, the key question; did you place the order?

I've dealt with discogs sellers for 12 years and never got any problems. Always got what I've ordered. Knock the wood.

You can cancel orders.  Sometimes, a seller has come back to me with ridiculous s&h which they obviously padded.

Like others said you can back out if no transaction actually happened. If the dude is giving you shit, write a bad review on him and call him a possible potential pedophile.

I've always been lucky (probs because I mainly buy cd's) but I have the sneaky suspicion that Discogs is infested with absolute Fuckwank Cunt Stains.

Any place with a high concentration of Vinyl Collecting Coneheads will have a high population of people you just want to smash their skulls in with a lump of wood.

Approach with caution or preferably a cricket bat.

the fact that this dork made you start a thread on a forum questioning your own sanity is giving them more than they deserve. of course there's no obligation if a) they took a while to get back to you and b) you didn't even send any money or stop them from selling it to anyone else. no harm no foul as they say. can you post what the guy said to you maybe? lol

oh fo sho:

On top of saying that you don't like his tone of voice you could also add that you are disappointed by his behaviour. I hope that will give him food for thought and make him change his rowdy ways

As a buyer you technically can't cancel orders. All you can do is ask, and the seller is free to choose between giving you the "per buyer's request" cancellation or the "non-paying buyer" one that gives you automated negative feedback.

If the seller doesn't have fixed shipping right there in their Terms, that's already a red flag. But if for some reason you are considering buying from them anyway, and your decision to buy is conditional on the shipping, that's what the Contact Seller link is for.

Step 4: Placing an order

You are not expressing a casual interest in buying the item. When you hit the "Place Order" button, you are declaring your full intention to buy the item by paying the full price stated using the quickest method of payment available to you. If you have any doubts or questions regarding the item(s), shipping cost, etc, please send the seller a private message before placing the order.

So if you've placed an order and this seller has decided to make it his hill to die on, there's not that much you can do.

There's a very simple way to avoid it happening in the future though. Start using the site the way it was intended, and not the way the big brains in this thread think it should work.

In other words, read the rules.

I've sold around 300 records they discogs, the only annoying thing buyers do is place an order and then not pay OR cancel OR reply to you if you send them a polite message asking them to pay or cancel...

As long as you didn't do that one annoying thing you're all good and he's just a prick

Could the OP sue for hurt feelings after the seller lambasted him for wasting his time? If it goes to court this thread could be used as evidence. The defence could go through every word of it, but truthfully theres nothing incriminating to find here, hell, most of it is words of comfort and solace to the OP after the trauma of the harsh words from the bad man.
