Albums like Music Is Rotted One Note

This came to me in a dream last night - I was listening to a mystery album and thought "This sounds just like Music Is Rotted..." But I woke up and thought about it, and not much music comes to mind for me. Definitely some Miles Davis is close, but that tends to be a lot busier and more chaotic. Wondering if anyone has any suggestions (jazz or otherwise) that capture the sort of murky, smoky, basement jam feel of this album.

Amon Tobin's Permutation hit this spot for me when I wanted to hear a similar vibe (if not technical/purely sonic similarity) to Music Is Rotted One Note. right from the moody opening sounds of the first track and the mysterious sample from Eraserhead, which I hadn't seen at the time.

damn, I think I'm ready to revisit those first 4 Amon albums. I rinsed them so hard for years I stopped getting any pleasure out of them. I may be able to go back now.

This would very much be within my sphere of knowledge.

Here are a few modern ones:

Conjoint  Earprints

Jackson Conti  Sujinho

Triosk Meets Jan Jelinek  1+3+1

Fixity  The Things In The Room

Omar Rodriguez-Lopez  Calibration

Omar Rodriguez Lopez Quintet  The Apocalypse Inside Of An Orange

and a classic Dutch one from 1974:

Jasper Van't Hof  The Selfkicker

Thanks for this thread.

I think this Badun album comes close to that kind of atmosphere in some places.

This. Badun’s music is amazing. Thanks for the reminder to relisten.

They are pretty great. This one isn't their best imo, it just meanders and the constant ride cymbal gets tiresome, but it definitely has the Music Is Rotted atmosphere down otherwise.

Actually I was just thinking how their self-titled album is somewhat reminiscent of HND-era squarepusher, but that would be another thread. Either way it seems likely they are influenced by him :squarepusher:

s.o.t.s. is my favourite, it's a beast on headphones

Kinda obvious but im mentioning it anyway. Psychedelic era Miles Davis and Herbie probably? Sun Ra can get quite synth heavy wild spacey smokey. (man that Sun Ra solo is crazy, found it while searching for stuff for this thread on youtube never heard it before)
