I also have an OG Spanners vinyl, but somehow never got around to getting Bytes on wax. I know the bronze vinyl pressing of Bytes is most probably the worst of the AI series coloured vinyls (I have Incunabula on silver vinyl, and it's awful), but never go the black vinyl either. Now, as I wrote before, Surfing On Sine Waves is the only AI release that hasn't had a vinyl repress... here's hoping.

Sine Waves has gotta be coming soon-ish

How are the remasters hitting you all?  I've just done some spot checking, and can hear subtle but positive/interesting differences.  So I'm a thumbs up (also not an audiologist).  It's a great excuse to really dig into these albums anyway.  I'm hearing more difference in Bytes versus Spanners.

Mastering aside, it still blows me away how good these albums are, and I'm sort of envious towards people who get to experience them for the first time. Tracks like Psil-Cosyin are mind-meltingly great, pre-split Black Dog material is just superb, post-split I've been much more into Plaid than Black Dog. I also think that my penchant for electronic music with polymeters and syncopation originates from BDP/Plaid.

Both utterly fantastic records. Using the basic building blocks of Detroit Techno: drum machines, squelchy bass, soft pads etc - but instead of industrial sci fi cityscapes, they instead conjure to mind some kind of pre-historic elysian vista. They do this with more of an emphasis on tribal drumming,  byzantine meandering melodies over Greek/Middle Eastern inflected chord sequences and of course the track titles/artwork. When I listen to Bytes I almost feel like I am standing on that mountain on the cover art and taking in deep breaths of fresh air.

Spanners was an awesome album, but these guys are too prolific I am super jealous sigh....

That's more of a "were" right?  1993-1995 was an insanely high quality productive time for that trio.
