coronavirus face masks..

YEK

Recommended Posts

So I've been wearing disposable face masks but I'm thinking it would be cool to wear one more trendy and also reusable..

Anyone rocking a designer face mask?? Or just something different??

I would LOVE an aphex twin mask but I'm sure they are long gone.

Quite like the looks of this one:

I've worn my lead/asbestos masks to the grocery store a few times... cuz i've actually had it fit-tested, OSHA made me. i also scribbled all over it years ago, so it's a bit different than the photo here, lol. dunno how effective it is, but it scares people off.

Rob Sheridan, the guy who was NIN's art director between 1999-2014, has been doing some VHS / Betamax glitch designed ones. My first order arrived

I had that truck and the helicopter/jet.  The cartoon is infamous for having some racist stereotypes.

I'll trade you for an Analord binder. :fear:

Edit: It is used however, and I love onions.

Here in Helsinki very few people are wearing masks in public and it's not officially recommended. I have a packet of KN95 masks in case I need them but haven't opened it yet.

In which state do you live? Here in Thuringia it's been like that for a while. Not even sure if masks are that good of an idea, in any case, though. I've heard epidemiologists (including Lauterbach) explain that if used wrong these masks can actually heighten the infection risk.

Masks aren't for the person wearing them, they're to protect everyone else from your plague breath.  That's true even in medical settings.

If you want personal protection you'll want a professionally fitted respirator, proper eye protection, and a very clean shave if applicable because facial hair and respirators aren't compatible.

If you want to help a bit to slow the spread of this stuff ad making everyone including yourself safe then you should be more worried about not potentially infecting other people, because that's a lot more effective than just protecting yourself.

True, but if you don't protect yourself and get infected you can spread the virus. So self protection is important.

By the way I'm not promoting not wearing masks. I'm promoting using them the right way.

As I understand it, the concern about using masks "wrong" is if you touch a contaminated mask then wind up getting the virus on other stuff that eventually winds up making its way into your body. If you're washing your hands regularly (which is really the main concern with the virus to begin with as far as I'm concerned) that shouldn't be a problem.

Masks with vents only protect the wearer, like the ones that were sold on the Aphex store or the 3M 100% respirators with the vent on the snout. Wearing those doesn't help other people around because you'd just be venting your germs directly into the air with no filtration. A regular cloth mask filters exhalation more than the vented masks. Vented masks really are for other uses like industrial, lab, medical, etc.

At the end of the day though I'm not going to scream about masks on social media. I have a system that works for me. I wear non-vented N95's that I already had before the virus, had them for years. I wash my hands probably more than necessary.  It's not a perfect system but it mitigates most of the risk that I want. There's 100+ other opinions and I've heard probably every one of them from the screaming Chads and Karens on Facebook and Twitter. If we didn't have this virus they'd just be telling people how to live in some other way.
