The Mars Volta - Noctourniquet
by Guest Popemobile v2- 12 replies

For all you progo-heads, the mighty Volta is back with their sixth album this coming Monday, the 26th of March, in the apocalyptic year of 2012. It's called Noctourniquet. There are some lineup changes - no more John Frusciante, new drummer, new dude on the now-prominent electronic effects - and despite a pretty mediocre lead single, it's another solid album. Initial response, which of course brings out a disproportionate number of fanboys but whatever, seems to rank it as their best since Frances the Mute. I may agree... Streaming link over at Rolling Stone. Not sure if it works outside the US, but there are other streaming links out there, and I've heard you can eve…

"Coming in beautiful, matt-laminate digipak! From England to the United States and back again... it all started as a simple drone project between LULL (aka Mick Harris of SCORN, ex-NAPALM DEATH), and BETA CLOUD (aka Carl Pace), based on the concept of how insomnia can effect your thought patterns. Billows of powerful bass drones set to indistinct flourishes of temporary insanity, it was released as a limited 3" CD in 2008. Now proudly presented in a deluxe digipak edition on cold spring, the original track is there, but also included is a fierce remix track by none other than legendary sound artist Andrew Liles (NURSE WITH WOUND), with stunning new packaging and artwork. …

"In 1977, Humans decided to send "the sounds of earth" golden plated vinyls into space, via Voyager1 & 2 shuttles, with the hope of reaching alien intelligences...and... they just aswered! Qebrus drops a totaly out of this earth, epic and lobotomising LP that sounds like if your were typing encrypted morse code in a shuttle enterring an asteroid field while listening to Autechre on a destroyed holographic device. The sound design is absolutely brilliant and the degree of abstraction is consistantly threatenning the data absorbtion capacity of human's brain (ie: YUM!)....If you were curious about hearing what's hip in Alpha Centauri...You've been delivered! …

Over the course of three days (and nights) they worked on two extended, electronic excursions in trademark Villalobos style." http://soundcloud.com/rushhourrecords/sets/san-proper-animal-12

Yes, its a thread about Markus Wormstorm, the one refered on some of Die Antwoord rhymes and the one that co-produced one max normal album. He has been also making music by himself for a while now and he's really good at it. He recently released a new album, on january the 25th. "Not I, but a friend" has been the soundtrack for my everyday tasks for over a week now. Its really good Imo, its dark, groovy, sometimes very cold, sometimes very hot, just like the climate in Cape Town S.A where he lives. And the best part: it is FREE. Free to share, free to listen, and it's quality. I honestly don't understand how this hasn't been reviewed aldready or talked about. So her…

Documenting a collaboration between poet Anne-James Chaton, guitarist Andy Moor and Raster-Noton boss Carsten 'Alva Noto' Nicolai. Chaton's clipped, monotone French delivery gives the whole work the feel of a post-Kraftwerk cold wave or industrial record - you could be fooled into thinking 'Calculus' or 'In The ISS" had been taken from an old Doxa-Sinistra tape, were the production not so crisp, punchy and spotless. Nicolai supplies a terrifically minimalist but dynamic backdrop for Chaton's words, its droning ambience punctuated with bullet-like percussion (the bolshiest number, 'Back In Town', sounds like Von Sudenfed gone Gallic), but the real star of the show is The E…

I thought I'd give this a shout. It was originally released last year but was quite expensive. Its now available through bandcamp and I highly recommend it. Some of the tracks have that 90's ambient feel to them. http://www.discogs.c...release/2950123 http://mindgames.ban...echno-for-japan
