I watched an episode of Nova last night explaining how Watson has been programmed to compete on jeopardy. Interesting stuff. At first I was like, big whoop, IBM made a computer that can store a lot of facts, of course a computer should win at jeopardy. But it's fairly more complex than that. It has to parse such a wide variety of cleverly worded jeopardy-style questions (or answers technically). What I was disappointed to discover was that Watson doesn't actually "see" or "hear" the questions like the contestants, but rather receives them via text simultaneously as trebek reads them. That's much less compelling. And also, as the article below concludes, Watson must…

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5iBJYWZkhTg&feature=player_embedded Gotta hand it to Jambe Davdar, who took three years and assembled a trio of informative commentary/documentaries on the original Star Wars trilogy. Culled from commentary tracks, interviews, on-set audio, and archival footage, it's a pretty remarkable accomplishment...and one that's likely to vanish from Youtube as soon as Lucasfilm catches wind of it, since they utilize vast swaths of footage from the films. Still, they're fun to watch, so check them out soon before they start coming down. The above video is part one of 14 for A New Hope, but there's also sequences for The Empire Strikes Back and …

Any fans of westerns out there, or Elmore Leonard should check this out. Timothy Olyphant basically plays the same character from Deadwood, albeit a US Marshall, for the 21st century. Good storylines, a gunfight almost every week, and sourced from Leonard (been a fan of his other adaptations; Jackie Brown and Out of Sight. Recommended.

http://www.parrot-bird.com/kva-kva.html Everyone is invited to Parrot Party! Did you ever wonder whether parrot themed music exists in this world?...NOW, at last, IT DOES! How many times have you said to yourself, “Does my parrot feel lonely? Does my parrot like to listen to and enjoy music?”. What music do parrots like? Do you think new commercial music misses something? Something from the heart and from nature. http://www.parrot-bird.com/kva-kva.html Hi, my name is Bruno. i want to build my own synth. ive been slowly introducing myself to electronics, and i understand that there is a point where you need to use complex math does anyone here have any experience with electronics? what level of math are we are dealing with? i always hated math in school and wasnt very good at it. im willing to learn now though, as the reward would be well worth it. when i was in school, i always told myself i would never need math...oh the irony anyway, if this is something i can handle, i think ill begin a study regiment, and spend about an hour a day learning electronics and math cheers

so i'm guessing the logic here is screw all the 3rd party developers, now they have to pony up 30% of their sales so Apple can hype their seemingly endless application outlets. also eliminates used software sales, which i'm sure Jobs has been out to kill for years. http://www.macrumors.com/2011/02/07/apple-to-eliminate-retail-box-software-inventory/

I thought there was another thread about Germany, but I couldn't find it. Anywho, I've had a desire to go to Europe before I turn 30 for a time now. I made that resolution four years ago, and now I'm 26 with four years left. I might end up there for an extended amount of time [6-12 months]. Can some of you Germans/Europeans give me some insight into some aspects? What is the culture like? Uptight? Laid back? Where would be the best place to stay for a prolonged period? What is the electronic music scene like? Is it difficult to find a job? How is the night life? I would be traveling there in a year or so when my German language skills have improved.

SO... I was just watching the film Thirteen, which I wouldn't recommend to many of you since it's more girly reflective, than reflective in general, but it got me thinking. My reaction to it this time (my 3rd viewing) was quite emotional and I was a bit shocked. I think I had previously watched the film thinking "hey this is a good movie to remember some great feelings/times by". But this time it really hit me that the main character, is pretty much almost to perfection, who I was when I was 13. A lil over dramatized, but still, quite close. (The main character is a bit sheltered, but then get's quite out of control [drinking, stealing, sexing] after befriending …

Go to google.com, pick your laptop up, and tilt it. Should work on any Macbook (and maybe some PC laptops, if you have an accelerometer enabled). You need Chrome or Firefox. May also work for mobile devices. Supposedly iPhones and iPads work. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/google/8310373/Jules-Verne-Google-doodle-science-fiction-authors-birthday-marked-with-tilting-logo.html http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2011/02/happy-birthday-from-20000-leagues-under.html
