First thing that comes to mind is Autechre : discovered them in 2003 but I was not a fan until 2010. Then, oversteps and everything suddenly makes sense.

Next thing, the second coming of ginger Jesus : Syro is a solid come back album , the new EPS goes from good to excellent and the SoundCloud dump was a fanboy wet dream.can’t wait to hear what’s next.

third thing, lots of good electronic music : Arca, Gabor lazar, Iglooghost, Rian treanor, EOD, MNLTH, Aleksi in colundi mode, Gerald Donald still on point, Objekt and I can’t list them all.

I'm definitely not into new music as much as I used to be. I can't tell whether that's an age thing or because of the music? But I do wonder why.

The hardcore tribal music fan in me is still there but only with artists who still release music but I've liked for years (like Autechre and Aphex) I seem to spend a lot of time, on Spotify discovering older stuff from the (late) 60's all the way to 2005/6. Then my interest really drops off.

I still listen to new stuff all the time, but don't go all full moon about it.

Best thing I've heard lately is the stunning Agora by Fennesz (again an artist that's been around for years)

BOC soundtracking the world going to shit

Ae somehow having a better decade than the one before and giving us the AAA and lots of free stuff

The return of AFX, the Caustic Window Kickstarter, the dump

Nightwind rising from the ashes of Strange Life records, also L.I.E.S. and Ilian Tape

Four Tet kind of reinvented himself and had a great run in the first half of the decade, some of his radio shows were a real treat too in terms of exposing me to stuff I would never have heard otherwise

Ishome made a decent "witch house" album

The vaporwave aesthetic and its kind of surprisingly far-reaching influence

I wanted to say something about how brostep died, but then I remembered there's still plenty of parties with shitty dubstep and drum & bass, it's just that they're mostly invisible to me because I'm old

I turned 21 just prior to this decade starting. The albums that have meant the most to me (leaving aside archivals):

3. The Fool - Warpaint (2010)

4. Suck it and See - Arctic Monkeys (2011)

5. Exai - Autechre (2013)

^all in my top 50 favourite albums

6. A Moon Shaped Pool - Radiohead (2016)

7. AM - Arctic Monkeys (2013)

8. Anna Calvi - Anna Calvi (2011)

9. Cosmogramma - Flying Lotus (2010)

10. The Electric Lady - Janelle Monae (2013)

11. One Breath - Anna Calvi (2013)

12. The ArchAndroid - Janelle Monae (2010)

13. Let England Shake - PJ Harvey (2011)

14. We Must Become the Pitiless Censors of Ourselves - John Maus (2011)

15. The Age of Adz - Sufjan Stevens (2010)

16. Tomorrow's Modern Boxes - Thom Yorke (2014)

17. Keepsake - Hatchie (2019)

18. Warpaint - Warpaint (2014)

19. Black Up! - Shabazz Palaces (2011)

20. AE_LIVE - Autechre (2015; 2019)

21. How I Got Over - The Roots (2010)

22. Until the Quiet Comes - Flying Lotus (2012)

23. Dedicated - Carly Rae Jepsen (2019)

31. Oversteps - Autechre (2010)

32. The King of Limbs - Radiohead (2011)

33. channel ORANGE - Frank Ocean (2012)

34. Rings Around Saturn - Rings Around Saturn (2018)

35. Seefeel - Seefeel (2011)

36. Wildflower - The Avalanches (2016)

37. Art Angels - Grimes (2015)

39. You Want it Darker - Leonard Cohen (2016)

40. Depression Cherry - Beach House (2015)

HM: Lese Majesty (Shabazz Palaces), Elseq 1-5 (Ae), Lovelaws (Theresa Weyman), Move of Ten (Ae)

Best of the big hit singles around the world were Work (Rihanna), Somebody That I Used to Know (Gotye), Love Yourself (Justin Bieber), One Kiss (Calvin Harris & Dua Lipa) and God's Plan (Drake).

Autechre definitely had my favourite output of the decade. I latched on to Warpaint, Janelle Monae, FlyLo and Anna Calvi as newish faves at the start of the decade, and feel Janelle Monae has been the most reliable of them. George Michael passing was the only time a celebrity death has really devastated me, as he had been a big, persistent part of my life since early teens. Crap news at xmas time, cut me tender.

At the start of the decade the first new releases I bought were Broken Bells (S/T), Heligoland & Oversteps, but Cosmogramma (simultaneous to new city & new car) was when the decade started to come into its own for me. I've obviously grown a lot as a twentysomething throughout this decade so tastes have changed somewhat, but fundamentally I still crave the same cornerstones.

Seefeel S/T is definitely an album I keep coming back to.

NTS, Elseq, EXAI and Oversteps... Autechre pretty much owned the decade for me.

I really love Snares x Lanois... which was pretty much marmite around here but it did the job for me.  Also his Last Step  - Sleep album, together with the digital bonus tracks.

Prurient - Rainbow Mirror was huge for me, very inspiring in terms of the noisy / experimental sounds I have been making recently.

Seaes - Seaes II

U-ziq - XTLP / EP hit me at the right time and left a lasting impact. Great work.

Ceephax - Cro Magnox / UAE

wAgAwAgA - Pina Kaleida! / Smoke Nettles / Hyper Typewriter etc.... = he went through a massive prolific phase where everything he released was gold.

It has been a weird decade in that there has been no massive standout breakthrough new "genre" - unless EDM wins it. Which is sad.

Anything by Silkie too. Love his stuff.

For me, listening to music, has really changed the last decade because of streaming and family life. Ten years ago, one of my favourite activities was opening a beer friday evening and browsing through everyting(!) from Boomkat the last week. Then pirating/buying everything I liked. The more obscure the better.

Nowadays I listen to music at work, travelling and hiking. If it's not available on Spotify, it doesn't exist. New Rolando Simmons? Oh, nothing new on streaming since 2017. I miss out a lot of new stuff, but at the same time, I've always had a foot in alternative rock, which is very accessible on streaming platforms, so there is always more than enough. A new thing is listening to more old classic. Five first Neil Young albums? Five highest RYM rated albums from 1981? Also, listening at work, travelling and hiking=more calm and harmonic sounds are appreciated. More ambient, more piano. Or maybe I'm just getting older.

Great new discoveries since 2010: Beach House, Leyland Kirby, 2814, Swans, Ben Frost, Arca, Grouper, OPN, John Maus, Nils Frahm, Actress, Jon Hopkins, Kurt Vile, Sharon Van Etten, Agnes Obel.

Some gems:

2010: Beach House: Teen Dream, The National: High Violet, Deerhunter: Halycon Digest, Kvelertak: s/t, Four Tet: There is love... Laura Veirs; July Flame,

2011: PJ Harvey: Let England Shake, Tim Hecker: Ravedeath, Grouper:AIA, OPN: Replica, The Caretaker: Empty Bliss, Bon Iver: s/t, John Maus: We Must..., SQP:Ufalubum,

2012: Swans: The Seer, Beach House: Bloom, Godspeed: Allelujah, Andy Stott: Luxury Problems, Dinosaur Jr: I bet on sky,

2013: Boc: Tomorrows Harvest, AE: Exai, Tim Hecker: Virgins, Jon Hopkins: Immunity, OPN: R+7, Kurt Vile: Walking, Daft Punk: RAM, Agnes Obel: Aventine,

2014: Swans: To Be Kind, Aphex Twin: Syro, The War On Drugs: Lost in the Dream, Sharon Van Etten: Are We There, Iceage: Plowing..., Andy Stott: faith in Strangers, Spoon: They want my soul, Plaid: Reachy Prints, Clark: s/t, Ben Frost: Aurora, Arca: Xen.

2015: Sufjan Stevens: Carrie and Lowell, 2814, Jamie XX: In Colour, Balnck Mass: Dumb Flesh, Kurt Vile: believe..., Arca: Mutant.

2016: Bowie: Blackstar, Nick Cave: Skeleton Tree, Swans; The glowing man, Ae:Elseq, Car Seat Headrest: teens of denial,

2017: Mt Eerie: A crow looked at me, Slowdive: s/t, Blanck Mass: World Eater, GAS: Narkopop

2018: Daughters: You won't get, Against All Logic 2012-2017, Beach House: 7, Tim Hecker: Konoyo, Low: Double Negative, Ae:NTS, Skee Mask: Compro, The Caretaker, GAS: Rausch.

2019: So far... Weyes Blood, Blanck Mass, Plaid, Rafael Anton Irissari,

When I was digging for the WATMM best album of the year lists for the past decade I came across this list by @MaartenVC that actually covers the whole decade

it's sadly kinda true for me as well. I still buy LPs and CDs of stuff, and they get plenty of plays around the house, but when I'm putting together best ofs etc, it's usually done on spotify, and they get left out. It's dumb for the artists to keep stuff of spotify these days, I don't know why some people are still weird about it. Why isn't that new humanoid album on it? or the E.R.M. / convextion stuff. What is the point, it costs nothing, people can find your music and once in a while you get a check for a few cents. In our niche genre I don't see spotify plays as cutting into sales of vinyls or cds.

I guess is a comfort thing maybe, I got all my playlists n formatting done on winamp n stuff and it's just easier for me to find solutions that don't involve streaming, the case for most ppl is probs the reverse.

edit: also for real like would b a p boring best of playlist for me not having the boc old tunes or the sc dumps on there but to each their own I guess...
