Autechre Recommend me a similar album to Incunabula
by Guest texan whip- 22 replies

I've been listening to this quite a bit lately (in between my Quaristice sessions). It's easily the most unusual and unique sounding album in Autechre's discography. I have to say that I simply love it. I have most of the early Artificial Intelligence albums on WARP. I've heard a lot of other early albums by Aphex, Speedy J, U-ziq, etc. I've never really heard anything with quite the same feel and mood as Incunabula. I know it's a long shot but is there anything out there that is similar? I'd appreciate any recommendations.

request: SOUNDBOARD RECORDING 1 2 3 4

Could somebody please try and obtain – using anything possible – a soundboard recording from AE's current tour? Again, the live material for me is much more exciting than that comitted to cd so a clear recording is much needed. case in point:

Just curious, as i'm sure a lot of you may have noticed that the beginning of the untilted live set changed considerably from 2005 to 2007. Which do you all prefer? The glasgow intro or the hemsby intro? I can't decide. They're both amazing. The tempo and breakneck feel of the glasgow one is hardhitting and ballsy as fuck (well, on the non-soundboard recordings anyway) and that bizarre looped melody that creeps in in the newer intro is booth/brown surrealism at it's best. Just for reference.... Old intro> Newer intro>

As we all know, there are two versions of Autechre's "Eggshell" The one of off a compilation album called "Artificial Intelligence" And the one witch is on Autechre's debut album "Incunabula" Witch version do you think is better? ------------------------------------------- I personaly like the one off of "Artificial Intelligence" the best. Plus (I could be wrong) But I Believe that "Artificial Intelligence" was released before "Incunabula". If this is so? Would that make the "Artificial Intelligence" Eggshell the Original?

i wasn't allowed to leech on the soundboard, so i recorded the entire set (55min) with a microphone. sounds a bit crappy, basses were REALLY strong so they're distorted through the entire set. should i put it online anyway? by the way - fantastic set.

I drilled a hole in my head today while listening to Quaristice, it totally changed my opinion of the album. Somehow the brain tissue leaking out the front of my head lent the music a certain numinous "je ne sais qua" that I had failed to notice before. Bravo, Rob and Sean, bravo!

Autechre 11-track disc better than the regular 20-track release?
by Guest ComicMaster- 19 replies

I wonder if it would have better to release the bonus disk of the album Quaristice for what they originally released to be the bonus disk as their 2008 album. Honestly both albums are amazing, and the second one has this feel to it that it straight up was an album on it's own. It's "Versions" of the Quaristice tracks, and it really makes you appreciate the editing they must have done. Not saying that one is better than the other....they are equally awesome... However the bonus disk is 11 tracks with an average of like, I dunno, the tradition 6 and a half minute Autechre song, whereas the original Quaristice was like 3-4 minute tracks and whatnot. I dunno, I thought t…

FS: Quaristice - Special Edition
by Guest dangulberry- 12 replies

Hi all, Just offering my Quaristice special edition here before it goes on ebay. It's been played once. The original innersleeve is as can be expected - it has minor damage at the spine, as do most out there. But I have a spare innersleeve, in perfect condition, sent to me by Warpmart once I'd complained. Offers welcome! dg

I discovered recently that autechre makes great music for some video games. It isn't like background music, its more like letting an autechre album acquire some kind of narrative. My example of a great game to play while listening to Quaristice is MDK. I find Quaristice to be very visual and narrative in the way its sounds, it illustrates a mechanic alien world to me. MDK has a brilliant soundtrack already, but with Quaristice it takes on a whole different feel:

Quaristice 2nd disc review 1 2 3

I've only listened through twice, but it's what I expected, I guess: a collection of jams, far looser than the concise 'proper' album. It gives you an insight into the editing that went into the final version. Lots of overlap between tracks (especially the 2nd half of chenc9 and perlence) which is testament to the liveness of this album. Highlights for me are Plyphon, which has another beaty section in it than the original; Sonde re ix (whatever) is great, a familiar but different set of sounds; Fol4 is 11mins long, and I might prefer this version to the album one - looser though, less obvious structure - was played during the 11 hr session recently; 90101-60-blah blah is…
