Re-enter a world of sinister whimsy and oneiric eccentricity with Moon Wiring Club’s YDA of weirdness in Tantalising Mews, a conceptual double album that unfolds as part of snakes & ladders-like boardgame based on a dream by the artist involving decayed discount carpet shops and missed trains. Think ‘90s VHS boardgame Nightmare/Atmosfear, but based in a unchronic steampunk UK town populated by spectral chocolatiers and anthropomorphic apparitions. The typically surreal sounds on the two discs are intended as a background musicke for the game, with 2hr 11mins of smeared ambient inference and twilight tones that directly correspond to the mysterious Mews of the title …

Stereogum: Enigmatic vaporwave prankster James Ferraro has just behaved like enigmatic vaporwave prankster James Ferraro and uploaded a new collection of music to Bandcamp without any warning or description. Appropriately enough, it’s called Troll, and its cover art appears to be a poorly compressed MS Paint doodle. But the music is both weirder and better than that slapdash presentation suggests, and you can hear all five tracks below. So Stephen Buckley from Polypores has taken it upon himself to remaster some old analogue synth tapes by an unknown artist (or is it an alias? hmm) but both are amazing. Album cover of the year material: https://spunoutofcontrol.bandcamp.com/album/anomaly-on-meadow-lane https://moonfungus.bandcamp.com/album/stefan-bachmeier-visitors

Biosphere continues his reissue campaign with a 2CD version of Substrata. This is essentially the same as the Substrata2 double CD issue, but reverting to the original 1997 artwork, and including an extra 14 minute track, 'Laika'. Also in a much slimmer digifile sleeve, if anyone else is like me and desperate to minimise the physical size of their collection. Shipping on 6th January. There's also a 2xLP edition which, as far as I can tell, features the original 11 track album, plus the 14 minute bonus track 'Laika'. Shipping on 20th January. https://biosphere.bandcamp.com/album/substrata-with-bonus-album

Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith follows up a collaborative album with electronic music pioneer Suzanne Ciani and her breakthrough long player EARS with her latest journey, The Kid. A double album in length that portrays the earliest steps of life's journey through a majestic sense of awe, mysticism and wonder. True to its childhood theme the album is split across four emotionally-inspired segments that take in the various stages of life's first moments through to the realisations of growing up and apart. The first quarter draws its focus on the newly found feeling of confused astonishment - everything is brand new and glistening in the morning sun. This traverses through an emot…

2017 will mark a homecoming for one of our most beloved artists! Ten years after "Plays Michael Mantra" (his last work for Silentes), 13 / Silentes will be releasing the first book of photography by ROD MODELL. A collection of over 100 personal photographs made during a 10 week stay in Barcelona during April-June 2016. A CD of Barcelona field-recordings and emotional atmospheric sounds by Rod Modell (that were influenced by the images) will also be included. These unique images and musical textures emphasize the darker, nocturnal side of Barcelona, and capture fleeting seconds that occurred between the moments that others noticed. A collection of mysterious images that re…

"Frozen Geometry" emerged from years of sketching new textures on guitar, which were layered and looped into immersive capsules of harmony and drift. The original intention was to use them as melodic foundations for future compositions but then he "became aware of them existing on their own." First full-length offering from legendary ambient act in over half a decade. An intriguing opus of hypnotic beauty and peripheral consciousness. New from Langham Research Centre, Tape Works Vol. 1 stands alone as a collection of modern musique concrète. Created with rare and obsolete machinery and inspired by early electronic composers including John Cage, Alvin Lucier, Delia Derbyshire and Daphne Oram, Tape Works Vol. 1 is the modern incarnation of the work of the original BBC Radiophonic Workshop. Tape Works Vol. 1 documents the origins of Langham Research Centre as a late night experimental gathering in BBC Studios, through to their present day long-form radiophonic works including The Dark Tower, inspired by the life and work of Nikola Tesla, and Muffled Ciphers, inspired by J G Ballard’s most experimenta…

i gave this a listen because reviews describe it as " postautechre" which sounds funny at first but fits somehow and i think its a really nice record reminding me of Tri repetae and early amber stuff. What do you guys think ? https://www.deejay.de/Powell_New_Beta_Vol_2_DIAG041_Vinyl__295313

Yamaneko, aka Talbot Fade, blurs ambient/electronic distinctions with a sublime album richly inspired by hours spent inside computer games, melting aut to new age cassettes, and the metaphysics of simultaneously being inside/outside the rave. Spa Commissions arrives quick at the heels of the heart-rending Talbot Fade tape My Voice Would Reach You to dreamcast another bridge into his wide-eyed and immersively detailed ambient dimensions. RIYL Goodiepal’s Havet, Lee Gamble’s beatless modes, or Visible Cloaks. Interesting work from an artist new to me.

Haven't heard anyone quite like this. His album Ill Tides was one of my favs from last year and this is easily among my top albums for 2017. Nice intro to his music, kind of straddles the line between his instrumental albums and his vocal-heavy ones. Overall I'd say his stuff sounds like an ambient / drone take on American Western music. He does all of the instrumentation with a multi-track setup - sounds like a full orchestral ensemble.

Our POP AMBIENT compilation series returns for its 2018 instalment, with series curator Wolfgang Voigt presenting another batch of hand-picked recordings from genre veterans and newcomers alike. The more seasoned among this year’s contributors are easily identified by their individual artistic sensibilities, ranging from the morphing, organic rhythms of THE ORB’s sample collages (on SKY’S FALLING) to KAITO’s ethereal, trance-infused soundscapes (TRAVELLED BETWEEN SOULS) and MIKKEL METAL’s intimate ambient songwriting (SHAME). They join the ranks of Pop Ambient scholars such as MAX WÜRDEN & THORE PFEIFFER (co-authoring the sparkling PANORAMA), Magazine’s JENS-UWE BEY…
