they should really get back into a more complex artwork that does the music justice. it looks like its supposed to mean something like some kind of stereo field or similar but it takes literally 3 seconds to make

I'm not really in love with it. I like it, maybe, as a color guide and for its atmosphere, but I would appreciate if there were a bit more to it. It also doesn't look a lot like the music to me. Something similar but with a lot of smaller white and red pinpricks of light would coincide better with what I'm hearing. But, thankfully, they didn't ask me : )

I feel kind of similarly about Sign & Plus. I try to think of orange & green a/e abstractions as if they're glowing, and I think that would have worked a lot more effectively. If it looked like they were sort of neon, giving off light - and, instead of static dark grey & light grey backgrounds, there appeared to be a sense of depth or maybe even some ghosting artifacts (like landscape abstractions or rows of windows, something very faint). I really liked the One-Six, NTS, elseq, & AE LIVE visual representations, though, so the last decade has been mostly hits from my perspective. Oversteps also had artwork that I found exceptionally unrelated to how I perceived the music, but I thought that the font was spot on.

i actually like the tension between cryptic subdued artwork vs the hyper detailed maximalism of the sound. it would feel very predictable for them to lean into some bio-mechanical deviantart 3d render porn. It could date itself pretty quickly, too. Somehow Draft and Confield still look shit hot, with that said...

Concerning artworks: They're functional and just enough to make em feel distinctive without providing some explicit kinda guidance to the audio experience, which is good in my book (AE play in the dark for a reason after all).

That being said: We've had our fair share of beanies by now. Maybe time to move on to some other vegetable for a change?

Tru. Still on the lower end of the suggestiveness spectrum in my estimation.

I’m sure Ian scoured the Bull Wallet thread many times for inspiration.

sean walks across the stage to the table. applause. rob follows behind. again, applause (maybe this is continued applause, the crowd applauds this whole time for both brothers equally). the laptops are ready. sean presses the space bar and both screens light up. the system is activated. the rig is running. not much can be seen on stage, just the glow of two faces. british. but not "chavs." rob is drinking stella and soon is throwing up into a water bottle. sean is agitated as he had just been wrestling off stage. the beats are skipping all around. formant synthesis. the kick sounds like it has a .0000000001 millisecond delay on it which gives it that classic "ae sound." it kinda sounds like metal tubes are falling down a stairwell. occasionally the crowd hears liquid tones, more organic. rob seems to be doing not much at all but then we get a signature ae pad for approximately 80 seconds. there's so much emotion in this pad the crowd seems to be tearing up. i imagine myself in the crowd. the pad evokes memories of my grandma, a beach where the water meets the horizon at an ambiguous point, various blurred memories. i am disgruntled bc this feels too "boc." what's next, a sesame street sample? the sound of a child's laughter. sean seems to detect my exact feeling bc he presses a series of keys (i'm thinking F > Return > 5 > ^ > Return) and the beat becomes completely "fucked" and probably around 400bpm. everything is so fast it sounds like a ferrari (aka "lambo") going top speed underwater. there's a surreal atmosphere. i believe this is reverb. these guys must be using custom fx. the reverb makes it sound like there is a separate ae concert happening in the distance somewhere. you can't quite hear it but it's there, like a barely perceptible memory trying to break through. sean gets mad bc he hears someone in the audience saying "this is generative" so the set is cut short. rob seems confused and keeps typing on the keyboard. but sean has powered down the system. nothing can be heard. the lights turn back on. everyone looks around kinda like "woah wild mental wtf." the crowd shuffles out. rob is still clacking away at the keyboard. one wonders if he's trying to boot up the rig or if he's typing to his family back in the "uk."

this is literally what happened in Sydney, like word for word.

I think these live performances are the best they have done for years. Tracks are on constant rotation currently. This also feels much more human controlled while the previous releases felt more like they build machines for each track and let them run with minimal interference this now has harsh emotional twists and turns and a very satisfying jazz like playfulness

Finally got round to listening to the Milano set. Still a handful to wrap my head around, seems like this will take some time. Does anyone also get the impression the part from around 28:00 tot 35:00 is still a progression of the part around the same time in the 2016/2018 sets (that part that always leads into the heavy bit)?

I somehow suspected AE to be part of the Gescom's AMKS session,

and, how the scratching parts sound like (london B last quarter), give me a clue towards this.

- great live sets, yes.  they're AcE .

I always thought it was just them. This has maybe been discussed elsewhere on this board. And yes, after listening to London B, I am even more convinced. They probably built some Max patch that does all this insane scratching based on some number flow input. And it would make more sense to put out a one hour jam of this under the Gescom disguise. That jam is killer, loved hearing all these old school samples! And hearing the "fresh" sample in London B gave me a BIG smile!

I've only really started listening to AE_Live 2022 these last few days, my summer was dominated by Ceephax. The 27m-42m section in HELSINKI reminds me of tt1pd, maybe some distant cousin..? The intensity is different, but the fingernails-slidin'-down-the-washboard hats, the insane buzzy synths later on.. Maybe thinking of Autechre in terms of tracks just doesn't make sense anymore.. Even with the albums. Maybe, since at least the 2014/2015 live stuff, it's all just Autechre in it's purest form. This shit is free.... Completely unfettered.

there's something evoking a robotic duck I'm enjoying a lot, not its quack but its gait

I am really feeling this in that section that starts at 34:04 with that juicy beat. We all know how great the second half of London B is overall, but that beat is one of my favourite parts, and now I keep thinking of the duck thing lol 🦆  (I'd say there actually is a bit of quack in there too)

Sean addressed the AMKS scratch session in the AMA, it was definitely them

Really? Well thanks, must have missed that. I like to have the AMAs on when I have the worst hangovers, quite soothing to have this calm voice talk about everything in the world, with nature grooving in the background. I'll have to get shit-faced this weekend so I can check again.

wOwOwOwOwOw at about 30 minutes into London B, why does it make me laugh so hard??
