yeah, not a fan of that movie anymore. i liked it a lot when i was sixteen, not so much now. it's certainly not bad, just not something i feel the need to revisit.

WTF? The diaper robbery/car chase is one of the best edited/scored sequences I've ever seen in a comedy.

I've got this on an archive somewhere, i started to watch it years ago and then got distracted by probably being drunk or having disinterested friends, that don't like subs, over or both. Might give it another go, seem to recall that it was rather 'colourful' as you stated.

there is a sequence in the opening of this film where clark asks his dame whether he can escort her home and she says "no" because she's getting a ride from the local douchebag crew- so clark runs faster than a train across smallville and reaches his house before the douchebags get there. they ask him "how did you get here?" he answers "i ran". they don't seem impressed.

 

that's this movie (in a nutshell)

 

 

heeeeeelarious film. i love all the silly situations that humans put themselves in only to be rescued by superman (part 3 was basically that, repeated over and over)- then the minute he goes off to boink the lovely margot kidder (courtney cox of the 70s) they're screaming "where the fook is superman mang?"

 

also has the extremely cheesy line "hey zod, mind stepping outside so we can kick one another in the face?" zod is a dude who has a thing for getting people to kneel for him

Still not following why so many people seem to dislike Only God Forgives. I've talked with friends about this film on a few occasions and we come up with the same conclusions on how it's visually artistic which seem's to be something that is a lost art in film these days. The characters come across as devoid of feeling but doesn't this add to what I've just set forth? I'm not saying that it's some miracle work of cinema more so that it has elements that are rarely seen in contemporary film.

Oh Lordie, Margot Kidder it too attractive as Lois Lane in those films...shes so fertile and spunky with that 'strong independant woman' vibe.

All by Ingmar Bergman.

I never saw Bergman's film before, so I took advantage of a film festival dedicated to him and saw those four movies over three days.

I have to say that despite their "heavyness" I felt them to be quite refreshing: rarely I've seen movies that give you the feeling that they were made exactly as the director had in mind. You may not like them, but you have to admit they are perfectly done, meaning that they are the perfect tangible representation of what the director had in mind.

 

I would recommend watching "Persona" (you will understand which was the movie that inspired Mullholland Drive by Lynch) and "The Rite" (guess where kubrick took inspiration for Eyes Wide Shut orgy scenes and soundtrack).

 

I would have liked to see "The seventh seal" as well, but when I discovered the festival, they had already screened it.

 

p.s. women in bergman films are wonderful.

i didn't dislike it, i just wanted to let people know what they'd be getting into. was it marketed as surrealist? i didn't know. it's cool that its not all-the-way surrealist, and there is a normal story to follow (normal for a violent crime story). and yeah it's artistic, and i think it uses its odd techniques of no-blinking or fidgeting or making expressions to serve an over-arching idea, if i understand it right.

It's of course solely my own interpretation but I'll do my best to explain further. I agree, that sentence was not well formulated leaving question as to what I'm trying too describe. Do you remember the karaoke scene? Well take that for instance, we have a character singing what to some may be viewed as heartfelt, for some hilarious, and for others holding no meaning. It does what art does best by invoking a response in the person viewing or taking it in (the actors do not steal the show they only enhance the experience). The Wolf of Wall Street is a good example of a movie that does the complete opposite. It's completely dependent on the viewer I guess and the connection they make to it in whatever fashion.... I'll start rambling so I'll just leave it at that.

pretty fucking great. certainly doesn't glamourise/coolify that shit. i often got the same icky feeling i get when i've seen the actual dude talking. the final shot

of the doe-eyed and desperate idiots

was hilarious and slightly depressing.

melancholia (2nd viewing) 8/10 thought it was even better than the first time.

 

the turin horse 7/10 felt like a 2½ hour film based on the last 15 minutes of "threads".
