We also stole Halloween.

halloween or all hallows eve is a pagan festival that has been celebrated in the british isles for thousands of years. we did not steal it in any way, precisely the opposite in fact.
We stole the Americanised Halloween.

The original pagan Halloween is not really celebrated is it?

yeah course it is, it's obviously now hugely commercialised, which may be the doing of america but probably not really, it's just the way of things. plus there are actually a few people who celebrate samhain still in some of the more rural areas.

I went to NY state for Halloween this year, and I can honestly say that Halloween celebrations in the UK are nothing compared to over in the US.

whatever lol.

Purchasing goods is a regular thing throughout the course of your life.

Purchasing goods at an extreme discount (IE less labor input on your part) is a huge attractant.

You "know" if there is a black Friday type sales event whether you're a "consumerist drone" or whatever you identify as.'

Edit: actually I apologize. I could be wrong. Providing you don't leave the house, read any local media, watch TV or use the internet (which has targeted advertising), interact with any people, have any social media etc. If you satisfy ALL of those, then you legit might not know.

Otherwise you're full of poo-poo. <3

The reason why i could not answer a question which to most would require little thought is that I am genuinely disconnected from mainstream society, i work at night time, i don't watch or read any artifacts of the corporate or government media, i don't use faceblart or gitter, so there are many things that go on beyond my notice in my own country, i do realise that in america this is happening, obviously, i just saw this thread about it, heheh. Beyond the cheek of my previous post though, to clarify, i am not making a value judgement on whether or not this is a better way to live, in many ways i'm sure i'm disadvantaging myself living this way. Of course i still engage in consumerism, when i buy things, I purchase them in two ways, when i need them when they are cheap. There a different variables feeding into each. I do tend to avoid peak buying periods so that i can more efficiently collect the good that i desire.

Anyway, it wasn't my intention to offend the bulk and his vanderhooj. All the best my muscley friend.

Let's arm wrestle :spiteful:

hehe

Actually to be honest I'm almost as detached as you. I KNOW these things exist but I don't participate myself. If that makes any sense.

I absolutely HATE shopping malls, Wal-Mart, etc. Can't stand the crowds....

I don't know whether or not i dislike crowds, i just find that they impede the process of shopping, so i go when there are less people around, maybe where you live there are always clone people around, not allowing faster people to feed through, blocking aisles with their trolleys, making a general nuisance of themselves, heh.

Well yeah, that's exactly why I hate crowds (aside from social anxiety).

I know what I want to buy. I go to the relevant store and buy it. Very logical straightforward process.

But all these people want to window shop and dilly dally.... stop in the middle of a walkway for no fucking reason, not even looking into shop windows just stopping dead in the middle of a group of people walking to change direction. It's very frustrating.

^ yeah this.

I suppose it's a new thing around here. Was there last year but seems to have taken off more this year. It basically exists to kickstart the Christmas shopping season isn't it?

dunno, it fucking sucks. All these emails and notifications everywhere from every fucking company you had ever engaged with.

I mean clearly this is not a charity. You gonna buy shit you simply wouldn't have bought otherwise.

Over the last couple of years, popular stores have taken after this holiday, simply naming it black Friday. This time it is utterly unbearable. It started with the electronics and appliances, but now even food stores are running this. It's such a cheap copy of the American holiday, no reason except to make more sales.
