i disagree, clearly that film is The Great Yoki War. i actually haven't seen audition but all of the other miike 'shocking' horror movies ive seen seem very juvenile (ichi the killer for example, seems like somebody riding Tarantino's dick a little too hard), ill give audition a try at some point

i have seen ichi the killer and didn't like it. i was prepared for audition to be some kind of warped torture porn based on the exaggerated reviews i'd read where they focus on the last couple minutes of the film. it's basically the opposite, and the climax is all left to the imagination, and isn't very long either. the rest of this film is just this incredible portrait of loneliness and gender expectations and roles. nothing like his other films that i've seen. also genuinely frightening, which very few films are.

Drag me to Hell - 5/10

Flat and boring. A few chuckle moments, but never terribly funny, interesting, or scary.

Prince of Darkness - 6.5/10

I expected more from Carpenter. An interesting concept that never really developed.

Halloween

Just saw Paranormal Activity and then Antichrist. Both films were most non-haenous, adaucious pieces of work with strong female leads who really put the asshole males in their place, similar female characters in both films i think, in the end. Also superb sound design in both films. Anti-christs cinematography was fucking out of this word too, almost started to believe that "nature was satans church". And need too get hold of the track in the end credits too. Wow.

I watched The Eye (the original from 2002) with some friends. I've watched it before but it still made me jump a few times. I was too tired to finish it though so I never made it to the elevator scene which is quite an epic scene. Scared the crap out of me the first time I watched it. I had forgotten everything about the cheesy music though which is absolutely horrendous and the same goes for some of the acting.

7/10

The remake with Jessica Alba from 2008 is a fucking atrocity.

2/10

There's absolutely nothing wrong with AntiChrist, I wouldn't know about Paranormal Activity though, but Antichrist is one of the most visually beautiful movies I've ever watched.

Yup - the original is from 2004

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0440803/

The best scare is

when the girl hiding in the photo turns around

no the best scare is

when you find out why his neck aches

i genuinely think that is the creepiest scene in any horror film i have seen (as an adult)

though the scariest things i have ever seen in film are various scenes form Jacob's Ladder

i just saw Antichrist, and while i agree it was visually beautiful i thought it actually suffered and brought the movie down to have the cliche violence scenes that were reminiscent of Nektromantik a german horror movie series at the end (one scene in particular seemed directly lifted from Nektromantik 1). I am a HUGE gore-fag, i get very angry when people use CGI blood or poorly done gore practical effects. So i honestly wasn't feeling those scenes in Antichrist, they seemed like they were trying to disturb the viewer to a great degree but the blood looked like red paint (especially the leg part) i was surprised how unreal it looked. So i think it failed two fold, it didn't disturb enough on that level because it wasn't perfect looking enough and it was unnecessary in the first place. I found the whole atmosphere up to that point far more creepy. And probably because of all the horrified reviewers hyping it up by saying it was some of the most disturbing footage they had seen had me going in expecting something far more wince worthy.

i thought the best and most effective 'violence' scene in the movie was when william defoe is hiding in the hole and trying to kill the bird with the rock while she tries to dig him out with the shovel

The movie i think would have stood the test of time better and been overall more interesting had they not veered into the torture territory imo. its worth watching just for the visual experience, especially if you can grab it in HD. beautiful looking.

I loved the Nektromantik series... Schramm was pretty fucked as well. Buttgereit hasn't really done much since then that I know of... spare TV bits.

The Shining - 10/10 - rewatch... my girlfriend decided to let me know that she had never seen the shining, in fact, never even heard of it. So I immediately spent $50 on a fine set of steaks, cooked them up over a few glasses of fine brew. We cuddled up on the couch, our bellies bulging with savageness, and we watched the Shining. It was beautiful.

We had quite the same night a few weeks ago. Shining is brilliant. Also introduced my girl to "One flew over the cuckoos nest", which she liked very much.

Orphan- 6/10, not the worst I've ever seen, little Russian psychopaths are a bit creepy.

Drag Me To Hell- 5/10, not scared for a second, laughed at most of it (even the gory stuff was oddly comical), called the ending right when the twist happened (not when it was revealed, but when it actually occurred, about ten minutes beforehand). Fun ride, good for one rental maybe.

teeth 3/10

really bad. i was lead to believe this was a kind of subversive horror movie but it was just retarded.

HAHAHA! I laughed my ass off watching this!

It's supposed to be campy and funny... That's the beauty of it, it's a breath of fresh air in a stale horror climate right now.

knowing - nic cage apocalyptical alien bollocks.

new town killers - running man crime game set in edinburgh... redeemed slightly by the familiar edinburgh locations.

synedoche - (how do you pronounce this anyway?) mr. kaufman... if you want me to constantly puzzle as to whether i'm watching reality or non, please make it worthwhile at some point. drab, bloated, depressing.

a bad weekend for movies.
