Pitchfork: Is that like the stuff Squarepusher was working on with his recent Music for Robots album?

RDJ: Well, when he released that, I was like, “Oh, fuck, I've been doing that for ages.” But mine's totally different to what he did. And I was reading about one of the Autechre guys, and someone had said to him, "Have you done anything with MIDI robots?" and he was like, "Every cunt's doing that now." [laughs]

Ask Autechre Anything

cult fiction: "Are you interested in exploring mechanical instruments, Pierre Bastien style? I think it'd be fun to have some good general purpose mechanical instruments, like a percussion system with a handful of surfaces and mallet types that could be combined easily, or a box with a few different tunable strings and various plucking and bowing attachments."

Sean: "nah every cunt's doing that. leave it to the aspirational types"

To find that exchange within the cavernous realms of the AAA googledocs spreadsheet, I searched 'cunt'. True story.

Documenting the thread really did pay off! :watmm:

"Nice bit of porn!" Richard D. James says as he hoists a duffel bag off the floor, extracts a boxy black machine, and lays it on the table next to his empty juice glass. “That is a good piece of fucking equipment." I wish I could tell you more about the gear in question, but honestly, his mini-tutorial flies by in a blur, because, well: Aphex Twin is sitting in front of me, showing off his fucking drum machine.

They'll dress him up in black nike gear and slot him into the sporty goth core trainers, tracksuits and t-shirts lets reignite the youth interest in sports apparel marketing thing that's going on at the mome.

Okay okay, I hate to admit it but the Pitchfork interview is fucking awesome (I'm only half way through). Fair dues.

Philip Sherburne did the interview, they did the layout (which is cool I must admit). He's written for RA and Spin and reviewed for pfork and others for years and years and I think he just returned to them as a regular writer. He's a class act and knows his stuff.

There are few things as soul crushing as hearing that Richard has a ton of music that could be released, but might not be, because he lost interest or forgot about them or whatever.

Or accidentally deleted them. :Shudder:

I obviously don't know Sean but he comes across as somebody who has a very strong willed determination on where Autechre were, are and will be with their sound. Total respect to him and of course Rob. I bet when he walks into a shop full of gear and gizmo's he's pretty hard to please, whereas Richard will be doing cartwheels. Then again this post could be a load of bollocks and I know nothing lol.

well, boc have a lot of music saved up for their kids. maybe this will be the future currency and these kids will be trading between one another and we'll only hope one of them has a vice we can take advantage of otherwise.... kickstarter :yeah:

Rolling Stone: How many kids do you have?

Aphex Twin: Two boys, eight and six. They make music, both of them. I don't know if you've ever heard of an artist called Mark Fell it's avant-garde techno, not danceable. Someone said [my son's music] sounds like a cross between that and Holly Herndon, who's another experimental electronic artist. That's really accurate, actually. He was five when he did it.
