I was going to wait posting this until I got confirmation, but it appears that an AFX Compilation may be out soon! Coming from reputable sources, the rumoured album will feature both Hangable Auto Bulb EPs, GAK, and some unreleased material. While this is not a "new" AFX release, it will be nice for all those not fortunate enough to own the rare albums and another opprotunity to experience great Aphex Twin music.Personally, I think records are a pain in the arse to use, CD's are so much more convenient. More info will be provided as it becomes available

Soon! 🤣

Happy anniversary to the best place I ever found on the net. Awesome to think that WATMM has been online for longer than almost every other site I browse regularly.

So much has happened in this past quarter century! Two Aphex Twin albums! Three Boards of Canada albums! And then Autechre had a few as well. What a time we've had.

Happy Anniversary WATMM, long may it continue

I was a lurker back in 1999, properly started posting about 2002 I think, although my profile says I joined 2005. Wasn't there some sort of database deletion in 2005 that lost the history from before then?

Here's some graffiti from when there was a thread about an online multiplayer graffiti thing. I drew this with @essines and @Johnny Hawk , date says it was April 2004

Yes, I think so.  Everyone had to re-register, which is why my member number is insanely low, I just happened to try the site not long after it came back up.

All in all, we're all pretty lucky to have a nice place like this filled with (mostly) nice people!

it's definitely gotten a lot friendlier over the years, probably because most of us are all middle aged and I guess more mature now. I remember back in the early 00's it was pretty wild and hostile. there were some epic flame wars that went on in here amongst some pretty insane yet hilarious posters.

Niceness is good, not overrated, but maybe we should bring just a smidge of that back. I still want to lash out whenever someone replies to (and thus continues the life of) the "Need some good music like Autechre" thread. It's mostly the conflation of (or suggested similarity between) Autechre & Chris Clark as well as the "NOT looking for something with vocals" bit that get me.

I was a lowly Twoismer when I joined here back in '06. Even amid the coexistence Xltronic, Watmm had a reputation as a hostile place, but over time I realised it was just a defense mechanism against insufferable musical mediocrity that blanketed the internet and the world! If you could survive long enough in the trenches of watmm and READ THE RULES, sometimes multiple times, there was a precious space to be had. As the internet has become increasingly siloed and enshittified, WATMM remains a special place imo. The discourse on Reddit, owing to Reddit's design, can never reach the peaks that WATMM has attained.

I still think some of the more recent forum updates, specifically the 'post react' feature, have degraded the quality of discourse on the forum. Ads are another thing but that just means Joyrex is done giving us all a free ride and we should pay to keep the thing we love.

It's a good thing we at one point recorded the entire thing so you can listen to it while on the go. I don't think we ever finished it though...
