Above are the results of the recently closed Top Albums of 2011 poll. I cut off the tabulation at 11 votes (albums receiving votes from > 10% of poll participants), though the raw results are there for the viewing in the poll thread if anyone wants to take it further or see how a particular album not listed above fared. If I get the time I'll update this post with discogs links, maybe create a discogs list if there's interest (did we do this last year?). Any comments or suggestions lemme know.

Rant, raves, opinions? Obvisouly the poll is only a reflection of what watmmbers felt the most from the preceding year, some may be up there mainly by virtue of their hype (and the Warp factor, others stand by their own merits. I have to imagine that we'll all have our own 2p on what was over/under-rated, so let em fly.

I loved Machinedrum, OPN, Lego Feet, Andy Stott, 2562, and the Advisory Circle the most, and even though I'm a fan of Tim Hecker, Bibio, Plaid, and Radiohead, IMHO their albums were good but not great and removed enough from their respective best works. The one exception was Mind Bokeh, which I found to be nauseatingly saccharine.

Definitely look forward to checking out some gems from last year that flew by the radar on their first pass... probably the thing I like about these lists the most. The Shabazz Palaces album is growing on me quickly, and I've just turned my attention to Caretaker/Kirby's stuff. Lord knows I've been trying with the Kuedo album too but a lot of these post-dubstep-exodus projects are hard to digest at first listen (for me at least).

Thank you watmm for participating and having decent taste (for the most part  )

god I just realized Global Goon wasn't even nominated. that is the saddest thing ever.

Quones, Quonesha, Theezadoozy, and Carbon were all fucking incredible.

I don't think very man of my choices made it passed the nomination stage, so this list is alien to me.

none the less, I know which albums I should probably look at next. Like the Com Truise one, and the Rustie album. Slept on those.

*Sigh* Fucking Machinedrum. Well, well....

I have more problems with the fact that you nerds rate the albums by Radiohead and Battles over PJ Harvey.

Anyway. Haven't listened to Oneohtrix Point Never, so I'm gonna do that today. Better be good.

That Tim Hecker album was boring, I think it's sad that people voted for the artist 'that was' rather then the 'Album of the Year', then again, this is watmm.

We didn't

You're boring. Ravedeath was his best album IMO, and I thought it was one of the best albums of the year.

Haven't understood the love for Rooms, each to their own taste though. Nor did I care much for Radiohead or Battles.... a fair few on this list I really have no love for (which surprises me but at the same time it doesn't)

If Lego Feet was getting nominated then why didn't any of the UR re releases or the Drexciya clone records re release get a look into? (i.e. this is albums of 2011, its a bit desperate if a re release of an old album is one of the top albums in the year....).

I would provide a counter list but I really can't be arsed and I'm not even sure if numerical orders in terms of "best" or "top" even work in music. You can't compare An Empty Bliss Beyond This World to Rooms or Welcome to Replica because they're all going for completely different things....

I couldn't tell you why these others weren't nominated other than they weren't. I asked for suggestions/opinions on how the poll should be run at the beginning of nominations, and no one had any.

Bear :trashbear: in mind that it's just a for-entertainment-purposes-only poll of what albums from 2011 watmmers liked most. It isn't (nor was it ever intended) to be a means of determining the intrinsic quality of this album or that, and the only objective conclusion to draw from the results is "hey, a lot of people on this here electronic music forum liked Album X." Interpret it however you want after that -, :cerious:, :music:, or "maybe this is worth checking out" for example. There are definitely plenty of apples/oranges/lemons in the results, and I agree with what rixxx said earlier about some votes being for the artist rather than the album.

FWIW I think a poll like this is a lot more useful than Pitchfork's, Bleep's, etc. which are essentially just the whims of a few self-anointed tastemakers (and might very well reek of payola for all we know). At least I know I share some common musical interests with y'all and might discover some stuff worth my time/money.

oh yeah, not a lose lose situation and still miles ahead of said establishment lists that all have financial agendas at play, this list was formulated because people enjoyed said list and there is plenty of great music on the list. :music: (i.e. there is still a large portion of music on said list I happily agree deserve accolade!)

 t'is all groovy :)
