live electronic music these days 1 2 3 4

Does anyone ever hire a group of temporary musicians to play the keyboards and electronic drums like the good old days? It seems these days it's always just some faggot with a Mac laptop standing behind a table playing .MP3 files of audio taken directly from the albums/singles/demos that said artist released. What's the point of live music if it's just some lazy asshole playing audio files from his laptop?

Do you pronounce it Bass as in the fish , to rhyme with Mass or Bass as in the frequency range, to rhyme with Base? I have always known it as the first one but recently I thought that the second one probably makes more sense so I was wondering what other people did. Also I can't find the poll option which is strange.

Do you pronounce it Lead as in the element, to rhyme with dead or Lead as in the position, to rhyme with deed? I have always known it as the first one but recently I thought that the second one probably makes more sense so I was wondering what other people did. What sort of DJs play mordern Warp kinds stuff?
by Guest Backson- 16 replies
- 1.3k views
I dont go out alot, but it seems like well known leftfield DJs play Dubstep, Glitch Hop and Breakcore/DnB mainly. That or ambient, but I wouldn't know really. Are there certain DJs or clubs that play stuff by or similar too Clark, Jimmy Edgar, Tim Exile, Jackson, VHS Head, circa "Moustache" Oizo or even Sebastian? I know that's kind of broad, but the only experimental club I know of mainly does Dubstep.

Couldn't find a thread about them.. Midnight Marauders and The Low End Theory are fantastic - I'm not a huge hip hop fan but something about their music is just so good.. any others like them? its some classic shit that is for sure.. beats today's rap/hiphop trash

goa trance

Can anyone with knowledge of goa trance recommend something great in the genre? preferably a freely available dj mix. I used to have some good mixes back in the day but cant bother to keep up with it as there is far too much junk in the genre of trance. however i am convinced there is some gold buried in the rubble. looking for great early/mid 90s trance too

Listening to "The blurring of trees" and it comes to my mind, that Alex Grahams output was just breathtaking. Especially this album. He paid so much attention to every detail, and most importantly, he composed music. I mean, not just noise and effects, but melody. Oh how I love Oddrey Merged and Le Elancholia! Where is this guy? No more music? Is anything known? BTW I think, planet µ wasn't really the right label for his rather Autechre'esque music. BTW, whats his output except the blurring of trees, (which I have on CD)? On my hd I find "Tour CDR", "Your choroid coat" and "Oh Here's some noises", all in <192kbps mp3 cbr quality.

Juan MacLean - DJ-Kicks

from the album - Feels So Good bio from all music Prior to becoming one of the most significant names on the DFA label, John MacLean was a member of Sub Pop band Six Finger Satellite. Initially, Six Finger Satellite fit in with the remainder of the Sub Pop roster, but after one EP, they took a sharp turn into herky-jerky post-punk inspired by Devo, Big Black, and Suicide. By the time they went to record their final album, 1998's Law of Ruins, Krautrock also began to play a major role, as did future DFA head James Murphy, who produced, engineered, and mixed the sessions, in addition to running the band's live sound. When Six Finger Satellite broke up, Ma…

Ghettotech

Is anyone familiar with this genre? I saw it brought up in another topic (the DJ Nate/Planet Mu signing one), and it reminded me of seeing it in the past but never truly understanding it or pinning it down. Are there artists specifically defined as Ghettotech? Or elements of a track/artist that makes it so? I like the sound of it but don't know what it sounds like. I would imagine it's like a combination of gritty rap and electronic music, like this... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eXg8BhSlBGo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zQynDJnCDL4 ...but I'm pretty sure that's not what it actually is. On a side note, Clipse's "Hell Hath No Fury" is one of …

Remember when industrial was about pushing the envelope musically, performance-wise? Anybody come across any exciting new artists these days? Most of my friends who listen to industrial listen to what is essentially rave music with the only real dividing factor being the use of 'scary' samples and goth imagery on the covers, thrown in alongside incredibly static and boring production that isn't a fraction as innovative as the stuff cevin key was doing oh 25 years ago

Cancer Research Charity Label
by Guest placidburp- 14 replies

I was recently asked to release one of my tracks with First Stage Recordings, which is a Cancer Research charity label! They sell your track/s online and all money goes to Cancer Research! I was thinking it would be nice if we could get a compilation album together here on WATMM that they could sell on their site? It would mean extra promotion for the artists involved, but above all its a fantastic charity and it would be great to help out and raise some money for Cancer Research. Just an idea really, but if enough people are interested I will start to organise things as soon as possible. anyone? links - http://soundcloud.com/firststagerecordings…

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1FCem00j5Hc I cannot find this style of "breakcore" anywhere outside of a bit of Venetian Snares work, with happier synth noises and samples rather than the blatant distortion and anger you seem to get in breakcore; but surely somebody else has got to make it. Can anybody help me out here?
