I recently did music for an online RPG and thought some of you might be interested in having a play through. it's got sort of a dark fairy tale vibe, pretty cool: http://tomirony.itch.io/the-hollow These reviews give a pretty good idea of what you can expect: http://killscreendaily.com/articles/interactive-fairytale-questions-your-morals-it-teaches-you-one/ http://www.relyonhorror.com/uncategorized/free-to-play-game-the-hollow-available-on-itch/ http://jayisgames.com/review/the-hollow.php It was put together in a month for a competition on video game story writing. Unfortunately it doesn't work in Chrome. if anyone has difficulty getting it to run and wants …

http://www.bbc.com/news/science-environment-26387276 Apparently the purpose of it is to harvest it for natural resources (especially for oil), but since it only seems to infect single-celled organisms such as amoebas, I don't think this means we're any closer to a zombie apocalypse. But I'll let you be the judge.

Topic to discuss the wonders of Gin. Why gin is amazing is that you take a vodka, and then mix it with botanicals and redistill it to make more flavour. it can be quite a complex and varied taste, with around 50 botanicals that are often used To make the perfect G&T imo you use a just under a double, with loads of ice, quarter to half a lime squeezed in, and fever-tree tonic elderflower. after trying about 20 of them, this was the winner: followed by: you can by chase at tescos and there are weird ones like this, which was so sagey, didnt like. and this (you can buy this in tescos too, and its cheap) which basically tastes o…

This thread is for general backwardness big or small cultural, social, political, etc to kick things off... New Zealand Bans Young Adult Novel http://www.cnn.com/2015/09/08/asia/new-zealand-book-ban/ Like banned banned. Like Ulysses banned. Like illegal to own or sell banned. All this thanks to Family First, a (you guessed it!) conservative Christian lobby group. here is their take on the 11-year old Paraguay girl raped by step-father: https://www.familyfirst.org.nz/2015/08/girl-exploited-by-amnesty-intl-names-baby-miracle/ here is their take on LGBT issues ("social madness"): https://www.familyfirst.org.nz/2015/09/zis-is-what-i-call-s…

Oliver Sacks has died today, aged 82, of cancer. One of my favourite writers. The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat, An Anthropologist on Mars, Musicophilia, and Hallucinations are some of my favourite books of his. Wonderful writer, deep, original and important thinker, everyone should read him. http://www.nytimes.com/2015/08/31/science/oliver-sacks-dies-at-82-neurologist-and-author-explored-the-brains-quirks.html?_r=0

I'm moving to Mount Isa in Queensland to work for a year. As I understand it its a pretty small mining town. I dont expect there to be any scene. Thought it was worth putting this long shot on watmm to see if there were any other heads in Mount Isa to hang out with and talk music, lest I lose my mind. Any takers?

Please tell me the difference between Al-Jazeera and Russia Today in regards to the coverage of the events happenning in Gaza/Syria/RDC/Cameroon/Senegal/Mali... I see the news here in Belgium and it's not just biased, it is clearly partisan either way. I saw Abby Martin, on national tv here in Belgium, but what does it tells you? It's free press and thinking, but when all you news feeder is Abby RT, what does it say about how "WE" "the west" view the geopolitcal implications of those crisis? Sorry I'm a bit drunk so I probably didn't quite formulate my thoughts clearly

So it's been a while since my last haircut and the only place I trust to do it is over an hour's journey away. Frankly all I want to do is make it shorter (one even length is fine) at the back and sides, with a bit of an undercut. The length is fine on top. No fancy layering or anything required. Do you think I should go to the supermarket, buy some clippers, and do it myself? How hard can it really be? Do any of you cut your own hair?

Some of you grew up in the 2000s, but for liberals in the United states, it was a decade from Hell. Poisoned by 9/11, it just went downhill from there: one of the worst Presidents in US history elected by the US Supreme Court; two never ending wars that have seriously damaged our national morale, a deregulated housing market that almost caused a global recession; the Great Recession that cost millions of people their jobs and homes, no accountability from the banking industry, which just continues to plod along like business as usual, after the Feds bailed them out; the deterioration of our civil rights under the Patriot Act, etc etc. The art from that time is one of t…

http://krebsonsecurity.com/2015/07/online-cheating-site-ashleymadison-hacked/ 37 million users.. 15 million in the US. Large caches of data stolen from online cheating site AshleyMadison.com have been posted online by an individual or group that claims to have completely compromised the company’s user databases, financial records and other proprietary information. The still-unfolding leak could be quite damaging to some 37 million users of the hookup service, whose slogan is “Life is short. Have an affair.”

so i was sitting back in my hometown getting steaming with my old friends last night, and there is literally nothing to do so we ended up just watching japanese game shows on youtube. ive never actually got round to seeing them before but holy fuck are they amazing, a perfect mixture of humiliation and torture that would cause an absolute uproar over here. quiet library was my favourite, kind of an inventive russian roullete, where you draw the short straw and get some kind of cruel punishment inflicted, while having to be completely silent. it was genius. my favourite was 'old man bites tenderly' which consisted of an old guy coming in, taking his teeth out, and …

Cool sounds

What are some cool and interesting sounds from out in the world and/or your studios. I'm talking cricket chirps slowed down 1000x, shuttles leaving the earth, the sound of rope swinging quickly through the air, hearing your own voice, whale noises, trains running track, tibetan bells, sitar noises, trees rustling, waters gurgling and whatever else. It's cool to think about how sound is simple air/matter vibration, and yet how diverse a world of music we have around us. The purest sound I've found is a small wire swinging quickly through the air in circles. It's the subtlest way I know of to make noises - as if out of thin air. But then I think voices are very cool too…
