what are your favourite idm releases from the early 2000s? i've just rediscovered a few of mine since acquiring near mint vinyl copies.

plaid - double figure

brothomstates - claro

lfo - sheath

bola - fyuti

i know there are the obvious ones like drukqs, confield, geogaddi etc, but it would be nice to hear some stuff that wasn't talked about quite as much. anyway post your favourites and let's get a little bit of 8-10 years ago nostalgia going.

go plastic / drukqs / confield / geogaddi

looking at that now, it really seems to me that those 4 albums are the end and the apex of "idm" leading up to them and "idm" after them leading up to the present day.

nothing has topped them, or even come remotely close.

in my opinion.

Four pretty much faultless albums there. Brothomstates and LFO are chronically underrated (or at least not mentioned enough) around here, I'd say. I might add the Astrobotnia releases, impressive range considering the time that they were released within.

This thread has made me feel a bit nostalgic.

Yo I forgot this and Vocal Studies! I meant to include them when I started my list but I was sorting my digital library by electronic and I don't have that labeled as electronic. But for sure the two belong on my list!

hey guys I did not like drukqs when it first came out. I only liked the fast breakbeat tracks. now I like them all. so happy 2010

Same. I almost immediately made myself a CD-R of just the upbeat tracks. Actually it wasn't that I didn't like the mellow tracks, I just felt the sequence of the tracks was completely out of wack, and not in a good way. I still feel this way actually.

Hyu - Random Walker's Delight (2002) = probably my favorite lesser known favorite, japanese idm guy who is pretty much retired now. some of the catchiest electronic music ever made basically

http://www.discogs.com/Hyu-Random-Walkers-Delight/release/224912

this discogs reviewer hits the nail on the head-

This release is a perfect example of an album that will never in a million years get the attention it deserves. An unfortunate circumstance for a talented artist like Hyu, and certainly unfortunate for anyone else who falls into the same boat. Random Walker's Delight is a ridiculous blast from start to finish, where technical sound expertise meets a dizzying array of pop-electronica, experimental ambience and glitchy IDM, just to name a few. And yet, it manages to sound nothing like these things. It understands it's reference points and completely disregards them and their standard conventions, something that is admirable in many Japanese musicians. Hyu's previous album hinted at these qualities, but it wasnt until this album that they were executed perfectly, with unbelievable results. So while the rest of the electronic world is hung up on ridiculous trends, self actualized irony, and a false understanding of what they think is innovative, truly great and unique artists

Wobbly - Wild Why (2002) = one of the best cutup albums of this era, using source material only from local hiphop station wild 94.9

pitchfork has a funny review where they don't like the album and incorrectly think Jon is much younger than he is

Wobbly's a young, suburban kid, obviously keenly aware of his influences, and still insists on confronting copyright issues that, thanks to his predecessors, are already moot points.

some nice recommendations in this thread. i missed out on a lot of stuff from that era, since i was mostly obsessed with afx and autechre, so i might give some of these others a try. i never really got into astrobotnia though, wasn't catchy enough. though i never got into early clark stuff either, so i should probably give both another listen.

yeah i did this too, except my cd had all of the breakbeat tracks up front and then worked its way to the piano tracks at the end.
