APHEX TWIN - SYRO

I don't know who Rod Whitters is but he's the one that made that fairly convincing fake Caustic Window track.

And it seems he has uploaded a second one on his youtube channel.

I'm really intrigued by this guy whoever he is, he makes good IDM and I'd like to have more of it.

Street fighter 4 (music muted) + syro = a fantastic Saturday morning. (Just realized both are sort of "products of the 90s" yet new) no wonder I felt like a happy 14 year old this morning)

Same here !

Is 180db_ really good, or really bad?

WATMM clear this up for me

Somewhere in between

It's very good. Very very good. I love it. I love the shit out of that track. It's (as they say in the UK) "mental".

Also, structurally, it's about as straight-up of a DJ-friendly rave track as he's ever done. Old school as fuck. It even has the extended drum loop at the end, for mixing purposes.

If you don't get it, it's ultimately your loss.

Richard is masterful in his music making. I don't think he's without errors but I think 180db_ is deliberate and therefore goes beyond good or bad and becomes a question of taste.

Syro is really great, and I feel lucky to be alive that I can experience it. Listening to the vinyl today again.

the third disc's vinyl hole is a bit too small for the spindle on my record player though.

has anyone else mentioned the holes in the vinyl being a bit tight?

Definitely warmed to it more on listen #2 over the initial listen. For some reason minipops really reminds me of this:

Holy crap, that's begging for a ballistic rmx.

thats creepier than windowlicker for me

Not trolling, and I'm not lager-ed up either. Just saying I'm coming down of the Syro high, and reaching a very nice, mellow plateau. The sun is waving it's warm rays between nice fluffy clouds, which rise and fall on a lilting wind. There's a lovely whorl of nice feelings radiating within and without, blurring upon the breeze. I feel I can see for miles.

So you know what I mean when the fist jolt of Aphexian drug has worked it's magic and now I feel a little deflated, and a little disappointed? Dunno, maybe it's just overkill or something. I need more tracks like xmas-eve, that's the deep magic I look for.

I'm not going to spell it out. It's how I feel right now. And it's a bit weird. The initial primal buzz has faded. Is it just me?

I wonder if the big wtf thing coming is studio photos like the SOS article Tom did. That would be pretty huge, and at a good moment if he just finished building his current studio. I loved Toms studio shots, not so much for the gear porn but for the sense of how 'lived in' his studio looked.

i don't experience listening fatigue w/aphex twin easily, his music is different.

i'm still high. no disappointment, deflation or disillusionment here. syro is unique.

if syro was a girl i'd be thinking about marriage, she's "the one"
