Kattoo - Motu Kattoo is one of those artists that is better classified as a sound engineer than a musician. His music is something of a film told through sound, complex and conflicted, rather than shallow and solely emotional. Motu is a full experience. Every note comes with intent and purpose, to gently guide or abruptly shove you where the author pleases. Kattoo's characteristic textures and vibrant synths gives the album much relisten value. But as a book which you already know the end to, nothing will ever quite renew the excitement and sense of adventure that occurs on the first listen. So sit back on a quiet evening and give this album your full listening …

From Scott Morgan: “This album gets its name from an odd little ocean side park that borders industry and the Vancouver port authority and lays claim to being the birthplace of the city. “In a way, Sketches from New Brighton it is a continuation of a dialogue with my environment that started with First Narrows (kranky 2004) and continued with the Strathcona Variations EP (Ghostly International 2009). It is not a rigorous "study" per se, but more a series of sketches, loose interpretations of the spaces I inhabit as well as an acknowledgement of their influence on my practice. These are my impressions, a kind of sketch of New Brighton and the surrounding area in an abst…

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3wn8igSeiCI Okay so this album isn't new, it was released 27 March last year. It's a pretty tight, if somewhat sparse album. It has a dark spooky vibe that nicely melds many of the sounds of recent electronic music: post-dubstep, rnb, footwork, future-garage, trap, that witch genre, minimalist dub; a sound that I wouldn't say it's anything ground-breaking, but it's very cleanly executed. The standouts for me are 'Set it Off' 'DMT' and 'Breeze' 'forest fires'. Anyhow, what I find surprising is that the full album has 1,358,840 views on youtube. I haven't found tracked the source but apparently XXYYXX called himself the head of the illumina…

Just got this through the post yesterday and it's been on repeat pretty much all the time since then. I think these guys are one of the only bands that can do twenty minute long guitar drone tracks that never get boring. I'm loving the full on doom power chords at the end of 'Liana' too. I wasn't quick enough to get the bonus cd boomkat were selling with it though... anyone manage to pick one of those up? http://www.thrilljockey.com/thrill/Mountains/Centralia#.UPwp2jxFDbU

http://editionsmego.com/release/eMEGO+150 "'Just to Feel Anything', the new album by Emeralds, surpasses all expectations, just as its predecessor, 'Does It Look Like I’m Here', did in 2010. This expertly recorded new album sees the band deliver plenty of their distinctive aesthetic for old fans to enjoy while offering a new range of fresh, exciting ideas for newcomers. 'Before Your Eyes' begins the record with a steady build-up, which bleeds into humid layers of synthesizer pads and warm guitar. The track sets the tone perfectly for 'Adrenochrome', a fast-paced excursion into new territory for the band. The calm after the storm appears in the form of 'Through & Thr…

http://www.fac-ture....hen-She-Left-Me A project from Andrew Hargreaves (of The Boats). I think there's a few people here that like the Cotton Goods label and the associated artists. I can't get enough of this stuff. Decayed strings and warbled melodies; what's not to like? On a related note, he released a double album earlier this year that's pretty awesome: http://boomkat.com/c...ps-is-your-name 12k has copies for those interested.

This guy is one of my favourite producers of immersive, meditative electronic music. New album is his best work yet. This cut is the warmest track on the album. From here it feels like you get pulled out into space, through a black hole and emerge into another universe: http://dummymag.com/reviews/2013/01/07/ethernet-opus-2/ http://boomkat.com/#cds/635139-ethernet-opus-2
