Sounds great. Pitchfork: "Digital Rain does indeed sound wet. Composed without drums, vocals, or guitars, it’s a synth-streaked cloudburst, an electronic squall. A minute-long interlude called “Monsoon” churns and seethes. “La Ville De Neige” quivers with an expansive, frosty calm. The thunderstorms of “Magma” fizzle out into a gentle drizzle, while delicate slabs of ambience hang like mist on “What If?.” You get it. All these moody invocations of raindrops drumming on the windshield of a car as it glides down the highway at night seem carefully calibrated to resonate in precisely such a literal way. Digital Rain doesn’t merely bring to mind precipitation. It’s a…

Docetism - Breast And Vulture ~ "Breast and Vulture" was inspired by personification of "Nature" from "Iconologia" by Cesare Ripa (1560-1622). It was a very influential book containing emblematical representations of virtues, vices, passions and natural phenomena. Nature is depicted as a female figure with milk poring from her breasts and a vulture on her hand. This simple yet powerful image reaveals universal truth that life is accompanied by death, and death is accompanied by life. ~ Link: https://rohsrecords.bandcamp.com/album/breast-and-vulture

This got lost amid all the good new albums this week. Boomkat The music is a set of soaring pieces that bring to mind the work of Tangerine Dream, Jean Michel-Jarre and Klaus Schulze.

"glacial, fathomless slices of ambience whose themes include decay and the nature of time" http://inverted-audio.com/review/william-basinski-a-shadow-in-time-at-union-chapel/ Assuming (hoping) this gets a release soon. I was disappointed with 'Cascade'. Fortunately, the Chartier collaboration last year was a lot better.

More Blackest Ever Black goodness. Air Lows is the debut solo album by Silvia Kastel. The Italian artist has been a fixture of the underground since her precocious teens, clocking up many miles in Control Unit with Ninni Morgia (“It’s like Catherine Deneuve dumped two cases of post-Repulsion psychiatric notes over Pere Ubu’s Dub Housing, lit the fuse and, ahem, stood well back” – Julian Cope), including collaborations with the likes of Smegma, Factrix, Gary Smith, Aki Onda and Gate (Michael Morley of The Dead C). Through her own label, Ultramarine, she has released music by the likes of Raymond Dijkstra, Blood Stereo and Bene Gesserit. Both solo and in her…

Carsten Nicolai (a.k.a Alva Noto) will release a new album, UNIEQAV, on March 16. The 12-track release will be the third and latest edition of the Uni series, an outlet for his more rhythmic and dancefloor-oriented work. The series began when Nicolai was booked to play live at the club UNIT in Tokyo and had to adapt his sound accordingly for that environment. UNIEQAV is described as a continuation and development of the concept of Alva Noto’s Unitxt and Univrs albums and completes the third part in the trilogy, whereby each record is both unique and part of the bigger picture. This is also mirrored in the artwork for each, which when combined form a triptych spelling…

This has been out quite a while now - I'd seen the artwork regularly on the Clay Pipe Twitter feed but never thought any more of it. Wow. This is an absolutely enchanting work. It sort of channels in to 1960s/70s London but not really focusing on the Ghostbox/Hauntology angle. It's just more an album of evocations. I'd seriously suggest checking it out. I see it's on Spotify and Apple Music too. This is one of the best things I've heard in ages.

Russia has really been doing it lately From Bleep: Having dropped a red-eyed techno 12 MS Ghost for Dark Past Bright Future in 2016, Blackest Ever Black call on Russian artist тпсб for an exercise in this very vivid form of dread-jungle. This is the sort of sound that made Foul Play, Omni Trio and A Guy Called Gerald such staples within our '90s listening habits, and it's great to see BEB pushing this lesser-explored corner of ambient-jungle (tekno). Sounding rather heavy-eyed from what we assume is many nights staying up late in front of a monitor and crunchy tower block running Cubase, carefully piecing together the album's complex web of breakbeats and dreamlik…
