From Pitchfork: Aphex Twin Says He's Got Six Albums Completed Electronic music boundary-smasher Richard D. James, otherwise known as Aphex Twin, isn't exactly cranking out new material at Lil Wayne speeds these days. His last proper album, Drukqs, came out in 2001, though he's released music under various names in dribs and drabs since then. But according to an interview with James in the British magazine AnOther Man (via Fact), Aphex currently has six albums in the can. James told AnOther Man, "I've got six completed. Two are very non-commercial, abstract, modular-synthesis, field recordings-- those I finished four years ago. Another one is Melodies From Mars…

I often buy vinyl for CDs I already own, as a kind-of upgrade. Sometimes if I see a CD for really cheap I'll pick it up despite already owning a copy. My collection of duplicates include: Meat Beat Manifesto - Subliminal Sandwich, Actual Sounds + Voices, RUOK, Storm the Studio (CD/Vinyl for each) The Orb - Adventures Into the Ultraworld (Vinyl/CD), UFOrb (two CDs) Coil - The Snow (two identical CDs) The National - Boxer (CD/LP) Animals on Wheels - Nuvol i Cadira (two CDs (not sure why I picked the duplicate up on this one)) Autechre - Chiastic Slide, Cichlisuite, Envane (vinyl/CD), Draft 7.30 (two vinyl copies, one is sealed) and I'm sure I'm forgetting s…

I see this trend that people are getting more and more unapproachable the more they are successful in music. why is that? Is it to make people focused on your product instead of your person? What do you think?

MP3: V0 or 320? 1 2 3 4
by Guest ruiagnelo- 76 replies

dunno if there has been such discussion previously, but i have been thinking about this lately. according to logic, shouldn't 320 have the highest quality, since it is a constant bitrate? on the other hand, V0 sounds very good and it doesn't occupy that much space when compared to the first. personally i can't tell the difference between the two, so i am definitely chosing V0, because i can get more music within less space. what does watmm think on this?

an interesting mashup performance
by Guest thepilot- 2 replies

I was browsing the interwebs and found a performance on a show called Xfactor. It is one of those musical performance adjudication programs that really contributes nothing of worth to the musical community, but I ran up on this somewhat interesting mash-up. The stage production suffers from that typical epilepsy-inducing visual diarehea and the performer himself is grandstanding to the crowd/judges to within an inch of his life. BUT, I like the idea and think it works somewhat well musically. Oddly enough I really like the audio production on the drumkit. I expected some stadium/gymnasium reverberated shithole only capable with 500 drum mic's, but it has more of an op…

dunno if anyone here is aware of/cares about At War With False Noise. but if you stay in Glasgow or surrounding districts and you enjoy harsh black nihilistic noise you should stop by O'Henrys on Monday 22 Nov. this will be the last AWWFN gig, as far as i know. £4 at the door. http://www.atwarwithfalsenoise.com/ dark.

looking for gothic 8-bit
by Guest Backson- 9 replies

I'm yearning for a very specific type of music. I was wondering if there are any albums or significant works video game influenced music that recreates the mood of a gothic, medieval or fantasy game. Either that or heavy metal influenced. You know the sort of thing, tracks about wizards with heartbreaking melancholy and fragile square waves harmonising, then jumping to agressive minor tracks about fighting dragons over lava pits. the only catch is, it still has to be good music. not just nostalgia.

Quaderns d'àudio (Audio Notebooks) is an online collection of publications related to Radio Web MACBA programming. In "Radio Music", Jon Leidecker (curator of the series VARIATIONS - http://rwm.macba.cat/en/variations_tag) connects three examples from the history of the potential of the radio receiver as musical instrument, from its early beginnings in the twenties as captured on a comedy record, to formal art experiments in the forties and fifties, to its nostalgic presence in one of the very first song-based pop music collage albums, which heralded the now familiar practice of sampling. Either Im a dope or the search function is shite. Because I searched "M.I.A." and "mia" in both Music Discussion and Recent releases and got no hits. Anyway I just got this and I think its a wicked album. Some absolute killer tracks on. I never really had much time for her before, Paper Planes was well catchy but my brother played the rest of the album and it was a bit "meh". This one though, I really like. Your thoughts? Previously mentioned "killer tracks"

Can you think of any hip hop / electro tracks that use samples of heavy metal songs to good effect? I'm trying to find something that captures the awesome head banging vibe of metal, but with a cool beatmaker feel to it. eg http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aEGmRBmJjRA

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JxZ-nZO3rks last 5 seconds it gets sort of gay but the rest I unironically like even if it is a little contemporary crime/detective/terrorists show has to have techno filtered shit on every drum noise that makes it more techno. The actually melody/chord progression/whatever I don't know musics is really weird how did this become the theme song to some random show on CBS. I seriously think Boards of Canada should remix it

I don't really listen to Jungle/Drum'n'Bass anymore but Rockwell's fantastic fusions between Jungle/Drum'n'Bass and the minimalism of Dubstep is brilliant. http://boomkat.com/downloads/294837-rockwell-stowaway-ep http://boomkat.com/downloads/248508-rockwell-noir-ep EDIT: Here's some more in the vain of Rockwell's techstep http://boomkat.com/downloads/251710-abstract-elements-wrong-way http://boomkat.com/downloads/280178-code-3-living-proof
