one of the most recent performances http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qtzPZ8RBz58 a collaboration with bardo pond: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GWC41j7Afao his old goth kraut post punk band: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m0BDHjXXTMY one of my favorite tracks of his: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h_CMSzseAtQ an absolute master in creating dark, moody and entrancing audio environments. its surprising he's so unknown, even the recent split with grouper doesn't help. dream goth ambient hispters shall embrace.

Seriously, so much of it is good that it's hard to make a decision. If you were pointing a gun to my head I would say Orbus Terrarum, but if I had time to think about my choice I would say Adventures in the Ultraworld.

I've been wondering, is there's a term for drum and bass with the second snare happening on the and of 3? how in the hell was there not a thread for him before? (in b4 cracks about "jazz"/"jazzband" &c.) This guy was fucking amazing. What a soloist he was. And pretty well everything he ever recorded is astounding.

when do you "own" music?
by Guest Backson- 18 replies

Hard to describe the concept, but do you feel you own a copy of an album if its MP3 rather than physical? Does it have to be a certain bit rat / format? Do you have to pay for it to feel like you possess it? I assume your answers are yes, probably and no, but here's where it gets murky. Do you feel the same way about an album or a song if your only experience with it is through streaming or hearing it without possessing a copy? Could you say you love an album you've only heard rather than owned (by certain definition)? Hypothetically the answer should be yes, as music is for the listening, but it does not feel the same to know an album from streaming on Youtube...…

Hi, Just want to share one thought : I'm listening to Milanese's "Extend" right now and feel sorry that his latest creations sounds very more "cliché" dubstep because I'm not fond of this genre at all but Extend is obviously dubstep and I just love it because it's still fresh, very creative, and experimental. (with all the respect I own to him ; I know that keeping your own music original is hard) let's hope better a next time !

Yellow House might easily turn into one of my favorite albums of all time. Shit's unreal. Veckatimest is also quite good. I haven't heard anything else by the band. They occasionally give off a very slight hipster vibe but that's OK. What's your opinion on these dudes, watmm? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xuYZbYtAl9A http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RLaI1EyfitU http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=elmRsURTEUo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=efcRTWNejtg I mean, Veckatimest is a pretty good album, but I'm really really really enjoying Yellow House right now.

back in the days I was listening to afx all the time. what ever he released I was listening to it nonstop. Then Quaristice was making me listening to Autechre much more and with Oversteps Aphex became even more irrelevant. What about you guys are you still listening to much Aphex currently and what are the releases do you listen to the most?

Got an email today from Snares himself asking for this forum to be removed as he does not want to be associtated with WATMM. Thoughts? I don't think Mr. Funk has any legal right to request a forum discussing his music be removed, but I will honour his request, unless he changes his position (I have not gotten a reply as of this post) on the matter come Monday morning.

Favorite Contemporary Vocal Harmonies
by Guest Wall Bird- 18 replies

This thread was originally going to be entitled 'Best Contemporary Vocal Harmonies' but I immediately realized that that was a disaster waiting to happen so instead, I ask "What contemporary artist has your favorite multi-vocal arrangements?" I'm gonna have to go with Kevin Barnes/Of Montreal. I love how playful and ridiculous the lyrics and delivery are. Loads of fun. On top of that the individual melodies and the harmonic counterpoint is usually flawless and catchy as hell. Most bands I know of today just don't even know what counterpoint is. He definitely seems to be carrying the torch for Zombies-style vocals today. Here's an example. I would start listening f…

so i've been face palming a lot lately because when i want to put on records, because my room is very dusty, the records just soak up that dust even when properly stored in sleeves. i bought a cleaner, i use it, it has some alcohol in it but it doesn't dry fast enough so dust falls on it and then sticks when it drys causing even more problems. i recently found an article it said to dust your record first and then apply a small ammount of rubbing alcohol directly to the record and wipe circular with a flannel cloth. boy does it work! the record dries super fast, wave it around to dry it off and a minute later you can put it on the platter to play. i just thought i'd sha…

I'm actually loving this style of music. Unbelievable they play this in some cheesy as hell clubs so that's kinda handy as I'm diggin it. Anyways this for me has gotta be the definitive funky house tune that springs to mind. Feel free to add others ones so we can make this a rolling thread. Nice one. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Sh35JmdsPs&hd=1

i am quite an admirer of squarepusher's music, so thought his brother should get some love too. i only have ceephax acid crew (the self titled album), which i have listened to a couple of times. i specifically enjoy acid le soken. i am getting ceephax land. you might ask why and i will tell you: i like the cover. yes, i know the music isn't supposed to match the artwork or the opposite, but i am quite sensitive to that. and united acid emirates has one of the worst covers i have seen in the last years. now apart from visuals, what should i put my hands on next?

I just spotted this on metafilter and I'll agree with the commenters there that this seems like an odd thing for Red Bull to be involved with. Pretty amazing though. Looking at the other videos on the site I reckon this is all going to be old news to a lot of you, anyway here it is http://www.redbullmusicacademy.com/video-archive/lectures/dr_peter_zinovieff_the_original_tectonic_sounds
