Unlike most of you annoying twats, I don't have a knee-jerk negative reaction to the mere mention of Pitchfork. While I often think their reviews are pap, I do think they cover a pretty broad range of music and demonstrate a sophisticated understanding of not only current trends but also the trends of previous decades that have informed where music is today. But today, their review of Death's Spiritual, Mental, Physical is just too much. The review published today describes Death's 2009 release, For the Whole World to See, as having "lived up to every bit of [the] missing-link and lost-classic billing when [it] finally arrived." Having read that sentence, I was …

Like many other artists i deeply love, this man seems to have vanished from the music scene. But i am glad he left a rich, wonderful and unique sound, and quite a consistent body of work: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0DH365BZYYM&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X-vFqb4AxMk http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pJ3TEqPNhRw http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SkH2TXvRCLs http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Olj1QycvLQ Too bad the album "Tones" never got to be released, it must have been amazing!

http://www.youtube.com/user/theneedledrop this guy is a pretty good music reviewer. he seems knowledgeable about a lot of music and isn't biased reviews everywhere from gorillaz to autechre to indie stuff and updates quite often. check it out oh and i might mention he's tough on giving ratings, like giving records that he likes 7's.... i dunno, i can see this might get me to check out new music i hadn't heard about.

http://www.aleksiperala.webspace.virginmedia.com/ ~ ~ site appears to be 'under construction' atm. the Words section has: Aleksi’s next album ‘Project V’ [‘07], his ‘Boom Blaster’ EP [’09] and his latest album ‘Mental Union 1’ [’09] are the reflections of these advancements [boom Blaster contains his first Hertz frequency mathematics and sine wave based track called ‘The Moon’, followed by similar experiments in Mental Union]. Aleksi simply states that these releases are to him a representation of the vivid and evocative genre of Braindance. They are a natural progression from the familiar sounds of Ovuca and Astrobotnia but with his newer, more mature perspe…

The Centrifuge Radio Show - 3rd Feb 2011 - Guest mix from EXAGONAL (Eves) By Ursa (Brap FM) We're back this week with a guest mix from EXAGONAL. I first heard his music on the Eves various artists compilation, playing his track 'Life of my Neighbours' back in March of last year, and his 'Disco Magnetico' ep last year showed there was more than one track in him. With a full length 'Disco Magentico' LP coming soon on Eves, Nicola has very kindly put together an exclusive live mix of his material. A huge range of styles are covered, touching almost every genre and style the show features. Listen closely... In addition, we've new music from Shed's WAX pseudonym, I…

I liked Whites Stripes, saw them live a few times and thought they always served up something tasty for the ears. But no more.

Most of us know all the popular stuff but I thought it would be a good idea to make a thread of hidden gems or overlooked classics. Perhaps new fans of Warp would appreciate it and older fans too, as I am sure even most ardent Warp Heads don't know it all. I shall start with this jaw dropping ISAN remix of Seefeel When face was face. Found on the 10th anniversery remix album. 100% classic. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CJJptz47sV0

I was sure I had already made this thread some years ago, but I can't seem to find it - so here we go. This old band seems to have been severely overlooked, which is a shame. They have made some truly great music! Here are some of my favorite tracks:

RIP Salvatore Cusato aka CASCO He gave Daft Punk every idea they didn't directly sample in this track right here... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bcwYp0musC8 These ones were OK too.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rqH4BY9onfY http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1GSBekxLR1E Last thing he did that I'm aware of is a sweet remix for his disciple Bottin: http://www.myspace.com/bottinski/blog/467985550

Basically, I am looking to make a disco mix in ableton with a lot of editing/filtering/echo/reverb/etc. I love some italo-disco/80s electro/80s hiphop. i love some soul-disco (for lack of a better term). I like Arthur Russell and am seeking out some choice disco. Please advice/drop youtube links.

OK so i need to create a playlist for someone who knows nothing (like couldn't name a beatles song) that gave the broadest survey of rock and pop music in about 100 songs. what would you play? And covering everything from classic, metal, new wave, punk, techno-pop, hip-hop, soul, disco and alternative stuff from the 90s and 00s, without straying to far into those categories. Just a song or two by an artist or two who are representative of each genre in some way. i.e. the most iconic, famous, successful. I don't want my selections to be totally one-sided towards my tastes or just knowledge (I know nothing of metal) so please just call out tracks to you that are iconic …

http://maddestkingsalive.bandcamp.com/ give it a listen if you're interested, he takes the chiptune sound in interesting directions, instead of doing the same old stuff all the time. he used to be part of legendary perth chip duo chrism + fenris, who made music using modded c64s, custom software and cheap samplers: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AyKrK8Ic5iM anyway, hope you guys like it
