"Deutsche Kassettentäter. The rise of the German homerecording tape scene, part #1", by Felix Kubin Link: http://rwm.macba.cat/en/curatorial?id_capsula=790 In the late 1970s, the German music scene was shaken up by a virtual explosion of new bands that sounded radically different to anything that had come before. They played music that was experimental, playful, absurd, minimalist and astute, with lyrics that were sung – or more commonly screamed – exclusively in German. Appalled rather than enthralled by this new expressionism, the record industry initially showed no interest in these groups, so new platforms had to be set up in order to spread the virus. Small c…

Machinarium Soundtrack
by Guest iamabe- 24 replies

I just finished this great little indie game called Machinarium, which is basically a pixel hunter type quest like Myst, set in a nicely painted cartoony steampunk/cute-ass robot universe. It's a short game, but it's a pretty magical 8 or so hours. The soundtrack is insanely good, too - most of it is really warm ambient in the vein of Eno, but there are some tracks that are pretty funky too. Check: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UvDvawzJ3s8 Dig? I would be a happy man if I composed a few tracks this good and they appeared in some videogames. Has anyone played this game?

Please enlighten me if there's already a thread on surfing soundcloud and discovering surprisingly sweet music. Would be nice to share all our new favourites on here, just as the favourite youtube video-thread. Feels like it's way easier to listen through tunes on soundcloud than on youtube, dunno why really. Maybe soundcloud in all has more quality too it than the wide range of kinda hard stuff to get into, on youtube, imo. whatever, two guys I found out about only yesterday, tons of quality stuff. so, there's like a shit ton of music coming out these days that is made of 80s synth arpeggiations, warbling pre-BOC pads, tangerine dream-klaus schultz-jd emanuel etc etc styles. you know what i mean, assholes. now, on one hand i really dig a lot of this stuff, even some of the more derivative examples (eg josh burke's "prana") and there are some examples that really transcend the genre (fucking rene hell!)...you know, you can't help but love LPs full of lush analog synth sounds. on the other hand, however, a lot of this stuff, even the good stuff (OPN) really seems derivative and pre-dated and sort of "band-wagony." it's so conservative and contrived, like every on…

Aphex Twin Irish djs and electronic artists 1 2

I will ignore "trance superstar" John O'Callaghan and the shit he churns out, and leave out the Solar Bears, who have their own threads here. I will also play down our ownership of the Aphex Twin. Think this lot cover minimal, techno, deep house and electronica anyway and are a pretty good advertisement for this little island... Hello everyone, I am new here, but on having a quick look around it seems like this is a very nice place to discuss good and bad electronic music. I hope you can welcome me into your community nicely? anyhow, on with the thread. I have been listening to this mix for about a year now. it's one of my favourite "releases" of last year, you may have heard it, it was compiled by Tom Rowlands: http://www.zshare.net/download/71159525f08df48b/ Basically, it seems to be a mix of world music which he has layered lots of synthetic sounds over and sort of manipulated into a nice 45 min mix. I love this thing so much and have been fairly obsessed with it for about…

WATMM, I have to make a 50s-ish TV jingle kind of thing for a play. I'm looking for a bad cheesy jazz song to cut up and get my singers to sing over. I'm thinking something in the same style as the jazz song sampled in "Keep Calm and Carry On" by Vibert. Anyone know how I could find jazz songs in the same style? I'm not exactly sure what to search for.
